I had the Pfizer one a few weeks ago. A sore arm for a few hours and that was it. What is annoying is the Govt moving the goalposts from 3 to 12 weeks for the 2nd dose. I can understand why they are doing this but should have said so from the outset.
I like the idea but antibody tests aren't 100% reliable. It states that on the government website if you go to order one.
Isn'y that based upon medical advice that the longer the gap betweebn the first and second doses the more effective it is?
The studies with the pfzier vaccine were solely done on a 21 day gap basis. However, our chief medical adviser is happy that it is still effective at 3 months.
No it was to give more people protection. That is perfectly understandable. However Pfizer (possibly a financial thing) and a few other countries have said 1 dose may not be as effective as they claimed it was and the gap is too long.
Must say I'm not overly pleased with some of the priority phases. I'm under 30 and not considered at additional risk but was offered mine 3 weeks ago due to working in NHS. I'm not patient facing though so personally think I should have been placed after the clinically vulnerable in the community. There's a chance that people can begin to book in for their second one within a week a two, whereas my old man (60+ with copd) is still to be offered his first. Whichis a bit of a pisstake imo.
I am 65 and in the clinically vulnerable group no sign of any vaccine yet But will just stay shielding till I do
I'm not due mine until about October according to the calculator. Hopefully it'll be all ironed out and more choices for us all. Meanwhile...all you who've had the 'early vaccine' will be sporting two heads and extra fingers and toes!!
Yeah, I do. I like the idea of it. My untrained and uneducated medical brain is telling me that the younger the person, the more severe side effects it is having on folk. That's only going from about 15 - 20 people that I know, like.
Good thread Janey, I had the Oxford vaccine two weeks ago at Bunny Hill Centre Sunderland, no side effects at all, other than feeling more sleepy than usual, and this has persisted . Not even sure if its vaccine related, but in the spirit of co-operation, I thought I would share just in case.
Look on the bright side mate. If you'd been in the EU, you could have been 85 with Asthma and COPD and still not had a jab. Your turn will come soon enough.
I've just started eating wor lasses cooking until it's time for vaccination, should be enough to kill any germs or nasties.
Have you tried booking via the nhs.uk website. You need your nhs number. I hadn’t heard anything but went on there Friday and put my details in and I had my first jab this morning. Just click on book my coronavirus vaccine and follow the process. Like you I am clinically vulnerable. Nothing to lose by trying. Oh I had the Oxford jab.
Try going on nhs.uk and follow the book a vaccine link. You will need your nhs number. You are almost the same as me. I didn’t get a letter either just tried this and it works. Pm me if you need help. I will help you through the booking process.
