Dear oh dear, you have no idea do you?

Come back when you begin to understand what consistency means instead of jumping on one good performance against a massively weakened Saints side down to 10 men <ok>

FFS - you two just don't have it in you to give credit where credit is due do you. Is it really that hard to praise the manger - you did watch the game, you do know we won 9 - 0 tonight don't you???? Obviously the wise sages don't think that is good enough for our club - poor defensive tactics, Ole was negative in attack - set up to draw (again) etc etc... I accept that a 9 - 0 isn't good enough and that there are coaching and tactical deficiencies that we will have to address going forward .Ole has to go....................<laugh>

WTF are you on about? Who's slated today's result or performance?

The post you've just quoted I've literally said "good performance" ffs <laugh>

You're the one going off on one about things said in other threads which go way beyond one game.

The only game Ole didn't **** up (according to you - strangely) is the one that we won 9 - 0, odd that. Mind you, we still haven't had a tactical deficiency report from Chief yet.....

Seriously what are you talking about? Why is it you're getting carried away by one result?

The difference between you and me is that I actually look at performances regardless of results over the course of a season to analyse what's going on and offer an opinion.

I would never judge a manager as good or bad on one game.

You don't want to comment on the threads (numerous) where posters have discussed the pros and cons of Ole as a manager, and you've waited for a result like today to have a pop. I thought you were better than that ffs.

I'm sorry - but you have been ready at every turn to criticise Ole - performances, tactics, team selection - everything, you've been leading the charge to (quietly) say Ole isn't the man to manage the squad. Suddenly .....................

Well in fairness to Trebs and Chief, any other manager would have us 10 points clear at this point in the season with the squad we have <whistle>

Not at all. Check back since his appointment, right up to the end of last season where I've not had a bad word to say about him because I was generally happy with what he was doing at that stage in his management and where the club was.. and then those two semi-finals made me think again. Then watching us this season I've slowly come to an opinion where I don't believe he's quite good enough to take us to the next level. That doesn't mean I don't want him to. Nothing would give me more pleasure. Could that change? Yeh of course, if the performances improve.

Fwiw I was going to post something during the match but forgot. At one point I heard Ole shouting "fewer touches fewer touches" to our players and I thought, fcking yes that's right. He wanted the players to stop dawdling on the ball and move it quicker. And the players responded and we scored about 3 in 8 mins. But that shouldn't just be in this game, it should be in every game.

Anyway I don't want to argue about it. We just disagree on how we see things and what our expectations are. I think we could be doing better and you think we could be doing worse.

We're all guilty of that mate, you and me included.

It's all about opinions, we all have one. Maybe it would be better to offer one rather than having a go at each other.

Btw if you honestly think anyone, Chief included, doesn't actually want Ole to succeed, you are completely wrong.

I don’t think we will change our opinions of the manager. Some here clearly do not believe he is good enough to be where he is and have made their views crystal clear. Others think he deserves a chance to finish his contract and therefore his work as long as we are making progress.

And our comments here during and post matches reflect our broad standpoint.

    This is the problem -

When it comes to the way that we have played against known rivals, we have faltered this season.

    United vs Spurs - 1-6
    United vs Chelsea - 0-0
    United vs Arsenal - 0-1
    United vs City - 0-0
    Leicester vs United - 0-0
    Liverpool vs United - 0-0
    Arsenal vs United - 0-0

That is 5 goalless draws in 7 matches plus 2 defeats costing us total of 16 points against those teams with -6 goal difference. Had we managed to win against Arsenal and Chelsea at home, at very least, we would be toping the league with less doubts about how long the stay would last.

In the end, it is not possible to win this league if every time we play those 6 teams, we go out and play for a draw as the best outcome.

Fundamentally, this is a team full of talents and we see this in other results. So, why the lack of mettle when we need to show spirit?

Glazer, you were quick to point fingers at Bruno few days ago for lack of form which affects the team. Why do you find it so hard that to acknowledge the manager is responsible for how he prepares and setups up his team to get the best result? When we win, you rapidly run to the good old - "I told ya so". But when the results are indifferent, you quickly point to the fact that certain players didn't perform.

I personally want Ole to succeed at the club and I think that he is doing a decent job. However, with talents in this squad, "decent" is simply not enough.

Ha, someone had a drink last night.

Last night was great. Opposition down to ten men after 90 seconds so we went for it, quite rightly. They were there for the taking, and we made hay, that's great news and should he the continued approach.

Imagine where we'd be if we didn't take Sheffield United for granted or weren't scared of an away match at Arsenal.

Over the past 2 years my opinion of Ole has changed so to say opinions can't change is untrue.

In fact I'd go as far as to say, those who judge him on our performances, good and bad are far more open minded towards him than those who follow him blindly regardless of performances.

And I've heard those who do support him, saying that if he underachieves by the end of the season then their opinion of him will change, so opinions can change.

Likewise if Ole's ethos and approach to games does improve then I'll be more than happy with him as our manager. But that's not based on one off performances (good or bad) but over the course of a run of games against our rivals as much as relegation fodder or mid-table sides.

One thing I do find strange is why ppl have a pop at others, simply for seeing things differently. I've yet to see anyone who supports Ole other than Diego actually talk about how he sets up our teams to play, especially the underachievement against the "big" clubs. That's quite remarkable tbh.

But, but, but, he's a legend and that.

    Give him time.

It's just not on to critique his performance.

I mean, what is a football forum for after all? Just blind cheer leading clearly.

Yeh the legend thing shouldn't be a factor.

It's good to want him to do well, but equally he shouldn't be immune to criticism because of it.

Btw I saw moments that showed James has a footballing brain. Some of his decision making, vision and passing in the short time he was on the pitch was refreshing to see.

There is a talent there which can be developed further imo. Not sure if it will be enough to get him a future at United, but he definitely offers something different to a lot of our other players.

This is why I’m glad that we didn’t get Sancho. Clearly, spending aimlessly when we are already flushed with players is not the way forward. We need to let the ones that we have get a chance to shine. I heard that Dialo has been impressive too. So that’s plenty competition on the right.

We probably need to move Martial on at some point and get someone truly in the image of Cavani into the squad. A poacher of some kind. Or perhaps extend Cavani’s contract.

    He definitely shouldn't.

Popping up after a decent win to 'prove' the doubters wrong is just nonsense.

Last season he was given a full season and was judged on that. Third place (although miles behind) gave him the opportunity to go again this season, rightly.

In the background was the feeble failure in three semi finals, which has reoccurred this season in the league cup and the abject failure to qualify from the CL group.

At the end of the season he'll rightly be judged again. We'll soon see if top four is the benchmark for the club, although it shouldn't be for supporters.

At what point is it acceptable for all the happy clappers for the rest of us to expect to challenge for actual trophies?
