Team news - Bruno rested, Cavani sitting on the bench champing at the bit and Diallo is on the bench beside him and has to play a cameo tonight - can't wait to see him play with the first team, his U23 performances have been outstanding.

    Well that was ****.

As I said in the 2nd half against Everton, we're just giving the ball away, getting dispossessed, passes going wayward. Bloody hell, I really hope this isn't going to be an ongoing problem in the coming games.

Well we got through but that performance was bloody awful.

Martial is utter garbage. Getting tired of his miserable mug as well. Can't wait until he's out of the club.

When Ole made his first 3 subs (about 15mins too late) i txt the lad to say "that should have been Bruno, Cavani and Shaw". McT scored so i can't really complain but i think it would have been more comfortable with the first 3 on sooner/together.

We shouldn't need to bring them on though to provide some pentration. It's worrying because it basically means they need to play every game in every comp for the rest of the season and I can't see them managing that so something's gonna give.

Thoughts on Van de Beek? Looked like his confidence is shot atm. The amount of safe 5 yard passes sideways and back he made didn't look like a player taking his chance to prove himself.

His situation worries me quite a bit, he doesn't seem to "fit in" with the squad in some way. They all talk to him and have a laugh when there's a break in the game but during play they look to him, see him in space or making a run then turn and pass sideways or back like they don't really trust him.
I have noticed this the last 3 or 4 times he's got on the pitch.

Well that was poor. The players were so slow and couldn’t pass the ball 5 yards. That was absolute ****. And the fact that we needed extra time said it all. Martial had a very poor game. Rashford was no better but at least he seemed to be trying. Van Debeek had a poor night too and didn’t do himself any favours .

Better just forget this match (not difficult ) and move on to the next match. Anyone betting against us getting City away?

I fell asleep it was that bad, woke up with five minutes of extra time left.

Not really sure who's role VDB was supposed to replicate?
With both Matic and Fred on the pitch he should filling the attacking midfield role but he was anything but, he was just another static midfielder, which meant him and Matic did the same thing.
Badly as well to be honest.

If he's supposed to be Pogba's replacement then on this evidence the best bet is keep Pogba.

Hopefully he would improve second season.

    We're through at least.

Although the cup comps are very meh given the finals are likely to be played in empty stadiums. Very flat.

Exactly, it was obvious he'd been given a free role but he looked static and not very confident, choosing to play a safe pass rather than move it forward.

Maybe it's a lack of games as the commentators were saying and he needs a run of games. Pogba is injured and we've got West Brom next so why not?

I personally think that the confidence has been knocked out of the poor lad. He would need games to get going and with Pogba's injury, he may be able to get that. But then again, I would prefer Greenwood to start on the right all the time with Bruno in the free role.

I just don't think he has it in him, one minute he's on the left in much the same space as Telles, the next he's looking to take the ball early from Wan Bissaka in the first third - he hasn't a clue, he was a big fish in a small pond at Ajax but he doesn't seem to be able to take the initiative at a big club, its like he's thinking that if he's seen on the ball a lot, that will be seen as a good shift, sadly he has no end product whatsoever.

I posted a little while ago that he's not rated at all by Ole and will be gone within a year. And those rumours are coming from within the club.

Fwiw I really hope not. I'd like the bloke to come good so hoping it is just first season blues and he kicks on next season.

Does make you wonder though why Ajax were so ready to let him go. All the talk of Van der Sar connection but maybe they already knew they could replace him or he wouldn't be such a loss.
