Who would you have as Leeds uniteds captain ? It's a great question after Leeds doing some uninspired displays this season , just imagine how many points Leeds would have if we had a captain that inspired Leeds like raphinia does ? My choice would be Philipps I know he is abit quiet vocal wise but think he would grow into the position , if he is out injured like now I would choose ayling to take up the gauntlet who for me is more vocal and can read the game from the back .
Your up early mate ? Ha ha it's 9.40 am here in Thailand , it must be about 2.40am over in UK , I know ayling goes forward but I think he can read game when he is back in defence , who would you put as Captain ? Cheers
I'd pick the same one that the first team squad have picked for the last 4 years as they obviously have more belief in him, than we do
Not Cooper as he was sadly lacking against Arsenal. Not one word of encouragement did he offer to young Meslier. Plus he is limited in his play and slow.
The concept of a leader-type captain like Bremner or Strachan is great but not the be all and end all. A few inspirational players around the pitch reduces the role of captain to the coin toss, choosing ends, and representing the club off the pitch. For example I really can't think who the captain of Man City is and yet they'll be winning the league by a country mile.
Under Bielsa every player has a job to do and if he doesn't do it he gets it in the neck. Bamford said that on Monday the players had to sit down with Bielsa and the video screen and they were showed why they were shyte in the first half and all because they pressed too slow and they didnt recognise they were slow. So in other words the captain had no idea until the next day. They were ordered to press quicker at half time and hey presto they were on top all half and scored two goals.
I don't think we have captain material in the squad in the mould of a Billy or Gordon. I can't recall any of our players rallying, or bollocking their teammates when they **** up or the going gets tough, could be the soft, can't upset anyone, snowflake society we live in these days Cooper is definitely not in my opinion, He'd be on the bench if all our defenders were available if I had my way, be interesting to know why the players elected him,. Like FORZA says, a captains job is just to say heads or tails now, can't think who is captain of most teams these days
Or because aArsenal looked qicker because they actually were. Two subs added some pace and Arsenal eased off a little. Watching that first half i could plainly see they were far better Athletes.
Yes i see what you mean , if more players took up the leash the captain would not have to do so much , but in leeds case eg first half of arsenal match that did not happen SO what should of happened is cooper should have lead by example which he did not he hid instead , i hate to say it but roy keane would never have done that even though i could not stand him , leaders LEAD , cooper FOLLOWS !
Have you considered that even if our captain had all of Churchills leadership credentials, players might just not be able to do what he wants? Indeed, they might not hear him. Or listen to him. Most good players are arrogant. Sometimes they think they know better than everyone, including the captain. Same goes for the kids / inexperienced players. They might be concentrating so hard that they shut out the crowd noise, inadvertently including their captain. Churchill was a great leader, but it was the war he won - not every battle. No matter what your leader says to you, if you're not capable of what he wants, it's not necessarily because he's a bad leader.
Exactly ! And that was coopers job to relay that to the players but instead he did a tommy cooper and did a vanishing act ..
