Something about the guy i just don't take to, yes i know he's extremely clinical and can score all kinds of goals, he also assists very well and could/can play as a 10. I never quite see him fitting in at our place and can't really say why.
Funnily enough I know what you mean about fitting in at United. The only big question mark for me is that there will be a period every season (probably around Spring) when he'll be out injured. And as he gets older tbose injuries and periods out will get longer.
Re Henderson, I thought we had an option for another year, not sure though. Funnily enough, he doesn't fill me with confidence as a keeper either and with Romero leaving we would be a bit weak between the sticks if Henderson was allowed to leave. As for the Sancho saga I suspect that ship has sailed, especially with the signing of young Diallo, and of Kane and Haaland I would go for the younger player. He is just as prolific a scorer as Kane (who does seem to be a bit brittle of late) plus Haaland is young enough for us to recoup the expenditure.
Lots of talk on sports news here tonight that we have expressed an interest in signing Donnarumma as a replacement for De Gea in the summer. According to the babble here, PSG want to sign Oblak from Atletico Madrid and de Gea will return to replace him, back where it all started. The 'report' quotes his GF (a few months back) saying that they look forward to bringing up their child together in Spain.
Yeh I read that as well. There's a £108m buy out clause isn't there? but maybe a swap deal for De Gea with a sweetener will do it, though I don't know how they'll meet his wage demand. My immediate thought was what that means for Henderson.
We are lucky we now have a ready replacement for DeGea. Henderson has been steady and could be slotted in straightaway. In fact if a club could take DDG then it will solve a headache for the club. We wouldn’t insist on the buy out clause. Good deal at half that.
Ok, so here's some news we've been waiting for; https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56343774 Le's crack on with transfers now. Based on evidence, Haaland must be pursued as the centre forward. He's clearly the best possible No.9 out there in the world. What we now need to avoid is a public, desperate, pursuit that's doomed to failure, like we did with Sancho and many others before that.
I’m very happy with this announcement. Hopefully Fletcher can rapidly learn the role and start influencing transfers. This is particularly great because Fletcher knows all there is to know about the club, its heritage and culture. I very much like this appointment as it is a fundamental shift that needed to happen.
Apart from Darren Fletcher, I don't know anything about the other two. I'd assume Woodward will still hold the purse strings, so will still be involved in the commercial side. The identifying and tapping up (let's be honest) now falls with others who know what they're looking for/at now though. Hopefully!
At last! So overdue. This should have been done 5-6 years ago. Let’s have a strategy on players and managers recruitment based on our playing principles. Attacking entertaining but winning football.
Donnarumma is available on a free at the end of this season, it's Oblak who has the £103m buy out clause.
We should stick with Henderson, in my opinion. Why are we getting in another goalie when others are clamouring to get Henderson?
With Romero leaving, and if de Gea goes, we only have Henderson and Grant between the sticks. Henderson is Ok but not world class, another perfect no2 keeper or a no1 for anyone but us.
