Put it this way, if next season Cooper and Ayling are considered squad players at best, it'll be a very strong squad and a quality starting XI capable of challenging for a European place.

Obviously all dependant on Bielsa staying.

If your opinion is based on a game from nearly two years ago, then this thread is pointless ;)

When Koch comes back, and if Bielsa stays for another year and persists with 3 at the back, I don't think that either Cooper or Ayling make the first XI next season.

Phillips is too passive to be captain so for me the only sensible choice in a 3-3-1-3 formation, and with the players we currently have, is Llorente.

Possibly but think ayling is more vocal than cooper , but my first choice to be captain is Philipps who deserves the captain role and is an England international so the skill factor is not in doubt and he does not panic like cooper does under pressure and also think Philipps can read the game better he can organise the defence and can tackle .

I know what you are saying but lloriente gets injured too much , for cooper to not make the first Xi he would have to be demoated first also whoever gave cooper a 5 year contract needs his head examining , captains role is abit like the supervisor at work the company always give it to someone who is useless ha ha and they could never do our job the useless tw.ts. ha ha

I will be shocked if bielsa does not stay as he seems the type of person who likes to finish the job not leave half way through it , to finish the job Leeds would have to win the champions League if bielsa does that he will be immortal at Leeds and I won't rest till Leeds útd do that after getting cheated out of European cup in 1975 by a cheating ref.

FFS! More Cooper abuse from you. Completely inaccurate pish, as usual. Don't you ever give up? <doh>

You seriously undermine your assertion that you're a Leeds supporter by constantly posting absolute pish like this. Go on, tell me how his performances / stats this season fare when compared to the last couple of years. At least try to make a structured case instead of the usual pish day in, day out. You're beginning to convince me that you're a referee, 'cos you definitely don't know what you're doing!

And coming from someone who probably wouldn't recognise him if he bumped into him, as you've never seen him in the flesh in your life. Never!

Also hate to tell you this, but when Bielsa does finally decide to leave, you're not going to make the shortlist. Even if there's a billion on it.

So STFU with your negative Cooper pish.

    Nice rant WJ <laugh>

Cooper has repeatedly shown that he's able to work hard and improve his game... the fact he keeps doing that surprises a few of us on here. Credit where it's due and who knows what further improvement is still to be forthcoming <ok>

I hate to burst your bubble Scottie you really need to get out of that bubble your in , lots of Leeds fans are not convinced that cooper should be captain , if you bother to read here you will see , the post is about who Leeds fans think should be Leeds captain your view is you like him as Captain others don't try to respect that , I have said why in constructive ways and so have others , defensive errors by cooper and not being able to rally the Leeds players back to get a point in some matches , I think your taking a biased view with him Scottish side and you scottie , wake up and smell the coffee.

He does work hard in training and some matches that's the only thing I concede on him but In back of my mind and other Leeds fans minds is the derby county play off match and his ability to go missing and f.ck up other matches .

So this is your idea of a structured case, is it? <doh>

Nope, didn't think so. Still pish. <doh>

And I don't recall mentioning my preference to you for a captain. So, guess that's something else you've made up. <doh>

And biased? How can I be, when I'm not criticising your choice, but the sniveling manner in which you deride the captain of my beloved football team. Should read 'our', but I'll need some convincing about you right for inclusion. :undecided:

    https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/players/outfielder_block

I'm fed up reading from the Cooper haters. He has been one of our most consistent players this season, along with Ayling and Dallas. They're all in the top 15 for tackles made this season but look at blocks.
Blocking a shot is stopping a possible goal. Liam Cooper is 2nd in the Prem for putting his fkn body on the line for the team so can we please give him a fkn break. He's also 6th in the Prem for interceptions and, would you believe, he's in the top few defenders for aerial battles won. He's in the top 20, at least, in pretty much every defensive stat category.
Bielsa doesn't pick him out of sympathy.

Hang on, what are you doing bringing facts into an online debate? :emoticon-0140-rofl:
That blocking is *exactly* what Bremner was noted for - "For Leeds United, Billy Bremner would break himself in two."
The Captain doesn't have to be the best, just competent. He has to have smarts to read the game, to know what each player has to do in any situation and he has to have the backing of the manager, so when the Captain speaks, its with the voice and authority of the manager.

That stat site is interesting. In the top 20, Leeds have hit the woodwork 12 times. Rodrigo (4), Bamford (3), Raphinha (3) and Harrison (2).

You do know his name is Liam Cooper? If you want to know how it's spelled exactly look at 10th place on the "Aerial battles won" list. Please also note that most of the players above him are forwards. There's only a couple of defenders.

The great thing about stats is that context is vital to understand them. I ignored the "Last man tackles" section because the most anyone has is 2!

    2!!!!

I understand that you hate Liam Cooper but don't blame him for that. Statistically he is one of our best and most consistent players and, statistically, he's one of the most consistent in the Prem.

All defenders make mistakes, even the best ones.

Stats from whoscored.com for players who have played as a centre back who have played at least 5 games this season

    Mason Holgate (Everton) 3
    Liam Cooper (Leeds) 2.9
    Pascal Struijk (Leeds) 2.5
    Davinson Sanchez (Spurs) 2.5
    Chris Basham (Sheff Utd) 2.3
    Enda Stevens (Sheff Utd) 2.2
    Ethan Ampadu (Sheff Utd) 2.2
    Christian Fuchs (Leicester) 2.1
    Ben Godfrey (Everton) 2.0
    Luke Ayling (Leeds) 2.0

    Wesley Fofana (Leicester) 2.6
    Jack Stevens (Southampton) 2.3
    Liam Cooper (Leeds) 2.3
    Pascal Stuijk (Leeds) 2.3
    Christian Fuchs (Leicester) 2.1
    Robin Koch (Leeds) 2.0
    Jan Bednarek (Southampton) 1.9
    Jordan Henderson (Liverpool) 1.9
    Fabian Balbuena (West Ham) 1.8

    Kyle Bartley (WBA) 5.9
    Tosin Adarabioyo (Fulham) 5.6
    Federico Fernandez (Newcastle) 5.6
    Joachim Andersen (Fulham) 5.4
    Toby Alderweireld) (Spurs) 5.3
    Michael Keane (Everton) 5.0
    Nathan Phillips (Liverpool) 5.0
    Ben Mee (Burnley) 4.9
    Fabian Balbuena (West Ham) 4.9
    Tyrone Mings (A'Villa) 4.9

    Eric Bailly (Scum) 1.5
    Ezri Konza (A'Villa) 1.4
    Issa Diop (West Ham) 1.3
    Federico Fernandez (Newcastle) 1.3
    Liam Cooper (Leeds) 1.3
    Gary Cahill (Palace) 1.3
    Ben Mee (Burnley) 1.3
    Toby Alderweireld) (Spurs) 1.2
    Eric Dier (Spurs) 1.1
    Jack Stevens (Southampton) 1.1

No player appears in the top 10 of all 4 of the above categories.

Cooper appears in the top 10 for 3 of those categories

Struijk appears twice, together with Fernandez (Newcastle), Alderweireld (Spurs), Stevens (Southampton), Mee (Burnley), Fuchs (Leicester) and Balbuena (West Ham)

At the end of the day I'd be quite happy for everyone of our first team to be replaced by better players, that can play to the style that Bielsa insists upon. However we also need to prioritise certain positions/players , and thus I don't consider Cooper to be high on that list. Are there better players in that position, most definitely, but he is not disgracing himself or our team, in my opinion

I agree a left back /quality midfielder and a goalie for me. I'm banking on geldhart and or greenwood for a spare striker.
