Well we played for the draw in the home fixture earlier in the sesson when they had fat Frank in charge so fully expect the same today. Which is considered a victory these days.

Personally think it's the wrong attitude to have. But anyway let's hope we get something out of the game as that kind of approach just heaps pressure on an already mentally fragile defence.

We need to go for a win today and nothing else. The fact that Frank got fired shows how vulnerable they truly were yet we acted like cowards at home. Insidious!!

Today is a chance to separate ourselves from the chasing pack with Leicester losing grounds.

    Lesgo Ole!!!

Btw Leicester dropping points is a banker for us to play for a point. The thinking will be we'll be a point ahead of Leicester and Chelsea stay where they are and don't close the gap. It's a piss poor attitude but it's the ethos at the club atm.

    Bloody hell, that line up.

What's even more worrying is what's on the bench!

    Greenwood at centre forward though.

    Let's see how he does.

I prefer that to Martial all day regardless of today’s outcome.

Been a good first half, I think we've pressed them well high up which has worked. With their wingbacks it reminds me of how we played against Livpl in the FA Cup game. Just without the goals.

Rather dull game. The first half was better for us but they dominated the second half. We had less of the game 2nd half and we reverted to a more counterattacking system. But that was more because Chelsea were on the attack and we were under the cosh. We would have preferred a win but a point is better than none considering that Chelsea would have got 3 points closer.

While it was a bore draw I think it is important to remember that while we are 'only managing draws against top six sides' or whatever, we shouldn't forget that translates to those same sides only managing draws against us. TBH I would rather we were getting draws against top six sides as opposed to losing, it shows that we can manage these games - we can also nick a result here and there, but ultimately, our results are no different to the other teams around us in that regard.

The following isn't a pop at anyone who holds a different view on here but the following is exactly how I feel and have been saying all season, pretty much word for word...

    Gary Neville after the game:

"United just don't have the belief to think they should go and risk everything to go and win these big matches."

"At the moment there is an acceptance that a point may be good enough in them. The mentality has to shift."

    Roy Keane after the match:

"You look back over the big games where they've not produced, that must be a concern. In these games, their mindset must be that they don't want to lose.

"I always say you're at United to win matches, and try to chase Man City down. From that second half, it looks like they're trying to cement second place."

The only thing missing which has not been said above is that we rely on individuals to score in moments rather than as a goal fashioned from a tactical build up in play.

This is how I feel anyway. All of it.

That's all fine in principle, as long as you don't then lose at home to Sheffield United and draw to West Brom.

I think one leads to the other personally. It's a mindset and it rots away to affect all games after a while. Something you can't just switch on and off from one oppo to the next. It's one of the reasons our defenders look so fragile and you get those results against relegation fodder.

And it's all very well and good (I suppose) accepting we're not winning the league this season and 2nd is an ok achievement, but next season we need to be actually challenging for the title, not being so ridiculously subservient to City.

Is that attitude supposed to miraculously change over summer?

Just a gentle reminder that top 4 is far from sorted and that we have a fight in our hands to achieve that or that 2nd which many think is just ok. ;)

I said many times that our attitude to playing big teams depend on confidence and a lot of it comes from winning trophies. Every team went through these stages.

Attitude confidence trophies all come from a belief the players have, in what they're doing on the pitch.

It's not just about putting out 11 quality footballers and expecting to win, but playing a system and each player knowing how they come together with those around them in a style of football that has an identity.

Our football has no identity and nothing knocks belief and confidence more than that.

We're relying on 3/4 players to carry us every game. That's our identity.

The rest honestly don't know what to do with the ball when they get past the half-way line or when the opposition attack in ours. I'm struggling to think of a single player who's improved in the last 18 months. Shaw maybe, but I think he was that good before his injury and he's just getting back to that which is a credit to him.

so we put 11 players on the pitch who do not know what they are doing, play without any system (I presume meaning they play like headless chickens), carried by 4 or 5 players meaning the rest are either clueless or hopeless ? Read again what you’ve written and see whether it makes sense. <doh>
