The agreement secures certainty for business, supports jobs in both nations, and sets the stage for closer trading ties in the years to come.

Handy if it wasn't behind a pay wall....

    The basic facts are here...

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-56259056

As I said before, Salmond is an odious character, but he's been thrown to the wolves by those in the leadership of the SNP if what he's stated (and what has been released tonight) is even half true. There's going to be some serious fallout from this once Sturgeon gets her time in front of the committee tomorrow - it's hard to see how she and Swinney can get through this in one piece....interesting times with only two months to the elections.

The UK’s first retirement community celebrating LGBT+ people is set to open in London later in 2021 after securing a £5.7 million loan from the Mayor of London.

Tonic Housing has used the loan to purchase 19 flats at Bankhouse in Vauxhall, which will be available to buy on a shared-ownership basis in late spring, with the first residents expected to be moved in by mid-summer.

The one and two-bedroom apartments will be coupled with care, events and activities which the housing association says will “celebrate LGBT identities”, working with established LGBT organisations and support providers.

Tonic Housing said services will be “genuinely affirming of the lives, histories, needs and desires of LGBT+ people”, adding this “does not imply exclusion of those who do not identify as LGBT but actively values those who respect and celebrate LGBT+ people”.

Bankhouse, run by One Housing, is an assisted living facility designed by renowned architect Norman Foster which overlooks the River Thames and features an on-site restaurant, floating garden and roof terrace.

Labour’s London Mayor Sadiq Khan said he is “delighted” and “proud” to be helping to open the facility.

“London is an open, diverse, inclusive city and I’m delighted to see these long-held plans come to fruition with the help of this loan and my Community-led Housing Hub,” said Mr Khan.

“Older Londoners deserve to be able to enjoy their later years in comfort and security, surrounded by a thriving, supportive community.

“I look forward to seeing this realised at Bankhouse and to supporting Tonic’s work to establish further LGBTQ+ affirming developments in the years to come.”

Tonic Housing CEO Anna Kear has said the facility will be the first of many LGBT-friendly retirement communities they plan to open in the UK.

“We are making history today, realising a long-held dream to provide a safe place for older LGBT+ people to live well, in a community where they can be themselves and enjoy their later life,” said Ms Kear.

“We applaud the Mayor of London for recognising and supporting the needs of older LGBT+ Londoners.

Guide to spotting far-right extremism sent to schools in England and Wales
Advice from Hope Not Hate charity addresses fears that children have been more exposed to dangerous ideas in lockdown

    • England and Wales, in time for the planned full return of schools in England on 8 March. The handbook is aimed at helping teachers spot signs of far-right influence after the charity’s researchers noticed that those harbouring and promoting extremist views are increasingly younger.

Earlier this month, a teenage leader of a neo-Nazi group was convicted for terrorism offences that began aged 13.

According to the anti-racism charity, social media and smartphones means children are more at risk of being exposed to extremist material than ever before, particularly with more time spent online during the pandemic. However, the terminology that radicalised young people are using may be so alien that parents or teachers do not pick up on it.

Owen Jones, the charity’s director of education and training, said young people did not actively have to seek out extremist content: they could be researching material for a school project on the second world war, and in half an hour, be watching Holocaust denial videos and other antisemitic content thanks to algorithms.

“Gone are the days when far-right proselyting was confined to the backrooms of seedy pubs – now this material can be accessed 24/7 with a few swipes of your phone,” he said.

Jones believes that increased levels of anxiety caused by the pandemic can make young people more vulnerable to being drawn in by far-right graphics and memes deliberately designed to catch their eye. “They are also having fewer social interactions with people who could take them off the wrong path,” he added.

He said that the current safeguarding advice provided to schools under the government’s Prevent strategy was often irrelevant in the face of the threat from the modern far right, as it was largely focused on Islamic extremism or far-right groups such as the BNP or the EDL, which are now largely defunct.

The 57-page book provides a guide to white supremacist and neo-Nazi symbols, the logos of far-right organisations and movements, modern online symbols and memes, and a glossary of common terms used by the far right.

Jones said teachers had been reaching out to the charity, which provides workshops and training, after seeing children use phrases or hand gestures that set off alarm bells. “Students are using language in classrooms they don’t understand – so, words like Chad and Stacey, which come from the ‘incel’ movement”, he said. “And then they think, right, I don’t understand that, so what else don’t I understand?”

He said a typical pattern of radicalisation could be an adolescent boy, who worries about finding a girlfriend, being exposed to misogynistic theories about conspiracies to keep men down, which could then leave them susceptible to ideas such as the great replacement theory, an extreme far-right paranoia that white people are being wiped out.

Jones believes that tackling far-right extremism is “one of the fundamentals of what government should be doing to keep us safe”, but in the interim hopes that the book will support early and effective interventions.

I don’t care about Salmond but (if true) then she needs to go and take the 3 others with her. Even if he is an odious twat it doesn’t justify their actions.

Is it true that after her recent ‘fantastic’ performances on the economy Anneliese Dodds  has been dropped from responding to the Chancellors budget speech? If this is true them it supports the fact that she is as thick as 2222! Bring back Abbott!
