Hummels was one I was thinking of a few days ago. I think he's 32 but maybe worth taking a punt on in the way Chelsea did with Thiago Silva who's 36.

We were linked with him in his prime iirc. Even if we get 2 good seasons out of him it would be worth it.

It would mean absolutely raiding Dortmund though!

From a Spanish perspective can I just add that Varane has been really inconsistent this season. SAF wanted him but I really do think he would be a liability in the PL, the tempo would be too much and his errors would be amplified. Given that ther is uncertainty over a new RM contract for Ramos is speaks volumes that RM are even considering selling Varane - if he was any good they'd keep him, let him go to PSG.

It has to be Haaland. Given his age he is already a prolific goal scorer, he's not 'one for the future' and a star of the U23's, but a ready made goal machine - we could get five years out of the lad and still sell him at 25 for much more than we paid.

I want to clarify that I’m not against bringing in players. What I question is the notion that simply bringing in new players will change the outcome.

This is because we do not currently have the structure to facilitate the outcomes that we desire in form of truly challenging for the league. I can start with Woodward, but ultimately it is the manager that is responsible for weekly performances of players. He has to prepare them, coach and making sure that they are getting better individually and accountable, then translate that into consistent team execution for match days.

These are all qualities that we currently lack. Props to Ole for all that he’s done, but the United job is sadly above what he can currently deliver on.

Therefore, if we insist on bringing in new players, we must do so under the best condition and structure that would allow those collective expensive players to thrive. Otherwise, this tried, tested and exhausted method will continue to turn the club into cash cow for agents and players with nothing to show the fans.

This has sadly been the vicious cycle since Sir Alex vacated the building.

Hmmmm - new thinking there pal. Let's get Stevie Bruce back in plus a few others and we'll be right as rain.
