It's actually pretty simple. Texas has a hot climate, usually. Texas is not set up for extremely cold weather conditions because it normally doesn't suffer such weather. Texas grid usual heavy load season is summer time when air conditioning units are used state wide. Texas normal shut down time for maintenance to It's power infrastructure is during It's normal low burden season, winter.

Texas is struck with unheard of extreme cold conditions during its normal low burden time and is caught with It's pants down. The grid cannot cope with the unusual capacity for this time of year and collapses.

P.S. the water pipes freeze because they aren't suitably protected against weather conditions that don't normally happen in Texas. Water pipes freeze in this country every time we have very cold weather and we are supposed to be set up for such occurrences!

    Pretty simple really.

It just annoys me the amount of people that think North America is only USA and Canada. I tell you what I'll do, I'm going to let it slide as it is Friday, I can't be fairer than that <ok>

They must have been deaf when it was even colder a couple of decades ago, and not far off as cold more recently.

The grid couldn't cope because there wasn't enough power produced to pump into it. If the grid was rickety, sticking windmills on it with no contingency plan for predictable weather conditions, instead of reliable generators is hardly a credible solution.

If anyone is claiming that the weather was unpredictable, they're effectively outing themselves as climate skeptics, that doubt the claims of the green movement.

No I'm saying they designed and built a power infrastructure suitable for the texan climate and they did it in mid to late 20th century. I have no idea where your getting antique wind turbines from. I'd say they would be pretty new but the energy they generate still has to use the infrastructure in place.

You irny very bright are you?

You are claiming that they knew the infrastructure was poor, and presumably you accept the claims of the greens relating to the future predicted climate, which is the justification for the wind turbines etc, and you feel that it was money well spent to forgo improving the infrastructure, in favour of funding replacing proven technology with one that they know can't operate at times of peak demand due to predictable cold weather.

Oh aye, that's a solid position and no mistake. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

You're a fùcking mentalist pal. Last years cold snap was record breaking. Some parts of Texas had temps below zero for a full 10 days! Weather conditions like that are few and far between in the Lone star state. So even if they may happen every 10-20 years or so you think it's economically viable for these energy companies to set up to cope with such rare events. Should Iceland fit all it's houses with air conditioning because it's occasionally gets very hot weather?

The weather last year in Texas was unpredictable. Of course it was. If you think it wasn't tell us exactly when they will get their next record breaking extreme cold spell.

I'm not claiming any of that ya daft cùnt.

I have told you why the Texas grid collapsed in a simple, dummy friendly way.

Obviously you are far thicker than your average dummy.

Right, so the weather was colder than the last coldest, which was a few decades ago, and around as cold as it has been a few times since, but you prefer to ignore that. You also prefer to ignore the claims of some scientists that are focused on predicting the very weather changes that have pushed the decline of hydro-carbon fuels in favour of so called renewables.

You seem to want those tasked with the future of energy supply to cater only for the current average, and leave people to die if the extremes go either side of that, and to make no provision for the predicted future weather.

Thank **** you're not involved in any meaningful way in planning infrastructures. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

This is my problem. Scots politicians do have a say over English laws, the English don't have a say over anywhere outside England and Wales. The DUP voted against free meals in the Shires yet their minister at Stormont passes legislation so norn iron weans could get them. What the **** is that all about?

I don't want Westminster to have a say in Irish affairs therefore I don't want to have a say In English affairs hence I vote for a party who doesn't take their seats at Westminster. Anything else is hypocrisy.

They are not talking about Scottish MPs. They are talking about MSPs. So...

Do they take the MPs salary?
