When you go twelve games with three wins, the manager owns it, period!

It’s okay for players to have a day off. What isn’t right is when a day off becomes the trend. Only the manager can rescue such scenario starting with the way that he sets up his team.

Ole set up the team perfectly today. He is largely responsible for the great outcome today. It wasn’t an accident because the players simply wanted to show up. That would be oversimplifying what goes into game preparation and execution of tactics as dictated by the manager.

    From bbc:

“United's recent performances were greeted with frustration, particularly after they played out unambitious, goalless stalemates at Chelsea and Crystal Palace.

It cemented the impression that this was a very talented side that had arguably under-achieved this season.

This was the other face of United, the one they need to show more often if they are to find the sort of consistency that leads to serious title challenges.”

There really is nothing else to be said against those statements other than coming up with excuses why we aren’t good enough or need more time, etc. These are nothing but bs excuses in my opinion.

From the same article on the BBC:

This, above all, was a tight-knit team effort from United and great credit must go to Solskjaer for another impressive game plan and victory at City.

United did the double over City last season and Solskjaer is the first United manager to win three successive away games against their arch-rivals since a run of four between November 1993 and November 2000.

He is also the first manager in United's history to win his first three away meetings against City in all competitions.

All in all, a good day's work for United and their manager.

The above immediately followed your quote.

But it’s all good today my friend. I feel great and hope you do too. Have a nice evening. <ok>

Classic example of the confusion regarding Ole on this forum. There you are saying that Ole deserves credit for the coaching and the tactics and then someone else will pop up and say Ole can't coach ten year olds.............. FFS, this was a tactical masterclass

Analysis of the Man City Man United match on MOTD:

Danny Murphy and Alan Shearer: “really impressed with the work and performance of the attackers and the defence of United against a relentless City side. The defenders must have been drilled constantly on the pitch to achieve this. The manager has definitely improved the team from last season.”

These are only their opinions. What do they know? ;)

Can't think who might have drilled them on the training ground though. Ole must have been doing press briefings that day.

I do not see this confusion that you speak of. In my view, nothing has changed. Beating City proves that the team is far better than the results they’ve served up.

Consistency is what matters in any discipline. Without that, talents in the team are wasted.

This shouldn’t be that hard for any of us to grasp.

Yes, we won today. It is exactly why many are left wondering wtf is going on with a team capable of beating City where many have repeatedly failed. Martial played better today. But would I keep him as the main striker because he actually put in a shift against City? The answer is no! Unless he shows consistency coupled with new level of maturity.

Ambivalence is now synonymous with Manchester United due to lack of consistency in what is served up. This is no good for our overall title ambitions.

    No confusions here whatever!

You forgot to add this from the same article:

"Manchester United have been a strange team this season and it is their inconsistency that has cost them their chance of winning the title - not a lack of ability."

I've highlighted the key important points there for everyone that is still confused as to why we continue to have these discussions.

we never disagreed about the inconsistency. It is there for all to see. The results are facts. What some of us did not agree was the assertion that the players had not been properly coached or trained and that Ole didn’t deserve any credit for improving the team.

The article gave a lot of credit to Ole as a coach and manager.

Yes, the manager deserves credit for yesterday. There is no question about that.

However, what many have referenced is that we need more players because the teams not good enough. This is where I think the argument falls out the basket. The players that we have are far better than what they have served in most of those 9 draws that we have accumulated this season. We need a better program to bring the best out of the players at most times when they step into United jersey and the manager is responsibility. If the manager is unable to ensure players step up physically and tactically when needed, then the conclusion remains that he is not good enough for the job.

I hope that clears it up.

So who's inconsistent, the players or the management team?

Great result and a good performance.

I'd echo Glazerfodder and Chief in saying we should play like that every week and it's about changing the mindset in how we approach games. I think our defence was well drilled but that's not really the point, it's about how we transition play from defence to midfield and then to attack. Yesterday was once again about that left side. We need to still improve on how we play through the middle especially against teams that won't give us space to counter attack.

Anyway, my main concern was going into the game against West Ham hanging onto top 4 by our finger tips. That's been avoided...for now. The gap is 4 points after today's results but it will completely undo yesterday's efforts if we fck up on Saturday. 10 games to go... squeaky bum time?

    Oh and Livpl <laugh>

It’s amusing that you are attempting to wash management’s hands off responsibility of on field performances. That is very fascinating.

Just as amusing as you trying to blame every poor performance on management <laugh>

So, who is inconsistent, the management or the players?

We thought you had disappeared Trebs, to avoid saying the coaching and tactics by Ole were simply magnificent. <laugh>

FFS we need to maintain that momentum. It would all be wasted if we get done or draw against West Ham. Agreed <ok>

Well I'm glad I corrected you boys again then <laugh>

I'm looking forward to the game against AC Milan next as well. I hope I haven't put the kiss of death on it but I actually think we'll do 'em.
