This weekend as we draw closer to the end of the season the big talking points are obviously all going to revolve around Premier League survival. I think its already done but could be proved wrong. Yes we may get beaten again by Chelsea but still confident that we are safe. The next big talking point will be new players and who is going out. We have already speculated this week about Pablo, Kiko, Berardi, Alioski, Forshaw and Douglas etc, but there will be a lot more from the academy who are released or sold.

Last Summer we saw good quality players released: Turner, Huffer, Odour, Miazek and Shergill all gone. We saw the likes of Wilks moved on and he has now scored 20 goals so far this season. We also sent out players on loan and I fear not many will be back at the club.

There are different ways to categorise these players who are out on loan now, and present U23 players. They will fall into get rid, keep or promote lists .Plus some of this will also be based upon their present contract end dates

A good example of the above would be Pascal Struijk, do we loan him out to the Championship and replace him with Casey from the 23s, or do we keep Struijk and loan out Casey to the Championship to get experience? Casey contract ends in 2023 and Struijk 2024.

I am going to attempt to forecast who stays and who goes:

    • Casey loan out to Championship club for experience.
    • Struijk keep in first team squad.
    • Cresswell keep in U23s and sit on 1st team bench.
    • Shackelton 2024, keep or loan out to Championship club
    • Hosannah 2022, loan or release as too injury prone
    • Jenkins 2023, loan out for experience in L1 or L2
    • Gotts 2022, loan out to Championship club or sell
    • Bogusz 2023, loan out to Championship club or sell.
    • Kamwa 2023, keep in the 23s
    • McCalmont 2024, loan out to Championship club or sell.
    • Hudson 2022, keep for the 23s.
    • Mujica 2022, loan out or sell as Las Palmas want to keep him.
    • McCarron 2022, keep for the 23s.
    • Davies 2023, loan out to Championship club.
    • Edmondson 2023, loan out to Championship club or sell.
    • Stevens 2021, release as failed badly.
    • Drameh 2024, promote to 1st team squad
    • Gelhardt 2024, promote to 1st team squad.
    • Gibbon 2021, keep for the 23s.
    • Van De Heuval 2023, keep for the 23s.
    • Caprile 2023, promote to 1st team squad IF KIKO GOES.
    • Greenwood 2023, promote to 1st team squad.
    • Kun 2021, loan out or sell.
    • Huggins 2023, promote to 1st team squad.
    • Summerville 2023, keep for the 23s

Leeds Utd U23s now being in Premier League 2 League 2 will probably be promoted to Prem 2 League 1 this season as Champions, and we need to carry on improving. By having some of this seasons lads promoted to the 1st team means they still get to play for the 23s whenever we want. But we also have 33 kids in the Under 18s and some of these have already played for the 23s this season and we need to carry on promoting from within as well as adding to the 23s and 18s from outside the academy. Some names for you to keep your eyes open for:

    • Kenneh already playing 23s
    • Allen already playing 23s
    • Haughland already on the 23s bench
    • Book
    • Skerry
    • Christie
    • Kachosa
    • Teale
    • Littlewood
    • Moore
    • Chiloka-Mullen
    • Ragan
    • Suttcliffe
    • Pilkington
    • Andreucci
    • Rigby
    • Bradbury
    • Fewster
    • Hughes has already played 23s
    • Spencer
    • Amissah
    • Chikukun
    • Dean already scoring for the 23s
    • Buchan
    • Coleman
    • Leverett
    • Picksly
    • McKinstry already a regular in the 23s
    • Carole
    • McGrath
    • McMillan

I am guessing that some of these kids will move into the 23s and some will be released and new kids will take their place from the U16s. This is what happens and its brutal for kids who get released, but it has to happen and that’s why it could be tough on the likes of Stevens, Kun, Hosannah, Gotts and whoever else gets binned off. Kinnear has already stated this week that he hopes Greenwood, Gelhardt & Drameh get promoted to the 1st team next season as their progress so far has been exceptional.

    Great post Doc.

Does anyone know what the U23’s & U18’s get paid ?

For example I was once told by a reliable source that Peacock-Farrell was on 4K a week. That was around the time he made his 1st team debut.

U18s and below dont have pro contracts and just get travel expenses and some dietary cash for their parents. they are on schoolboy forms so to speak and must be 17yo before signing their first pro contract. Remember when Leeds brought down WJs new neighbours from Scotland maybe 18 months ago? Stewart McKinstrey came down with his dad to drink with WJ as a 16yo and had to wait until his 17th birthday to sign properly. A wage is involved then but no big shakes, but enough for a dodgy haircut and a small car. I found the difference in contracts with Gelhardt and Greenwood interesting as we signed Joffy on a 4 year gig and Sam on a 3 year deal. Cash was involved in a fee to buy but wonder why the difference as there is only a few months age difference?

Will be hoping for a Villa win tonight.

Goes against the grain, but our needs have to come first <ok>

    Nohan Kenneh called up

    Senior call-up for Kenneh?

Kenneh has started to make the defensive midfield position his own in the Leeds United Under-23s side.

The England youth international, who was born in Liberia, turned 18 earlier this year but is already a regular for Mark Jackson’s side, earning nine Premier League 2 appearances this term and scoring one goal in the process.

Leeds are devoid of options in the defensive midfield role with Bielsa regularly struggling to play someone there with great success when Kalvin Phillips has been unavailable.

Pascal Struijk is mainly a defender but can play in the defensive midfield but he’s still injured and won’t be involved against Chelsea on Saturday.

Is Kenneh training with the first-team with the view to him potentially playing a defensive midfield role if Phillips is out?

Anyone remember the Billy Gilmoure kid that Lampard promoted from the 23s to the 1st team.the kid was then selected for Scotland? Well seems that Tuchel has better options and moved Gilmoure back to the 23s to get game time but not going to use him for the 1st team. Is he the sort of player Orta and Bielsa would be looking at. Chelsea fans are upset that hes not playing and today he never showed up for the 23s, looks like hes walked?

Are we in for an embarrassing ice rink pitch again today. I notice its been raining all night and will stop before kick off, but 40mph winds through the match. Anyone local give us an idea on what the weather in Leeds has been like for the last week or so, as we needed that pitch to get some dry weather with a bit of sun?

Morni g the weather has been wet and windy for the last three days at least. This morning is the same and i am sick of it. Prior to this it's rained on and off for ages. I am only a few miles from Elland road so it will be the same.
Lets hope no one has a serious injury and we would be better of playing in golf spikes. The pitch is a joke and should not be excused by covid.

Southampton player broke an ankle which really upset their boss. Tuchal commented on the pitch too yesterday at the Chelsea presser

I really can’t see us getting anything today. I’m just beginning to get a little bit concerned but surely we’ve got enough about us to get the two wins out of the remaining games to be safe.

After Fulham and Sheffield Utd, we have a real tough run of games, that most teams would struggle to get much out of, don't beat either of those and twitter and the forums will be in meltdown, but we have enough to get us through.
    Don't worry

Could be good for us then if chelsea keep going down. Breaks up the play which would suit us in this weather.

Gessa I have done some calculations based upon the run in for all the teams below us and including us. I have also been realistic and allocated a draw when it will probably be a loss for some teams. I have been conservative with Leeds but here goes my prediction for final points totals as everyone down there has a lot of tough games
    • Leeds 51
    • Wolves 42
    • Palace 36
    • Southampton 38
    • Burnley 34
    • Newcastle 33
    • BHA 29
    • Fulham 29
    • WBA 21
    • Gone

All I know is they were on peanuts until orta came, then when he started dishing out long term deals to everyone that first summer, they put all the 23s onto salaries and longer contracts that would ward off the vultures. Pretty much doubled them I heard but don’t know the numbers - whichever all just a modest night out for you Jammy.

u18s used to get a packet of crisps and a free kick up the arse.

    I hope you're right Doc.
Rather Fulham go down for 2 reasons
    1) London
    2) I think next season they could be stronger whereas Newcastle will be no better or even worse, especially if they keep Bruce in charge
