I'd have thrown Pogba right in (for Fred) but, other than that, good to go. Should be anyway, hopefully they attack from the off. No point being pragmatic when you have to score and conceding one doesn't make that much difference. Still, even better not to concede if possible, obviously!
I get a feeling that, after a promising resurgence, James is reverting to type and is playing the 'little guy getting bullied in or near the box'. If he continued the play instead of looking for the foul he might actually score.
We need to attack and create more FFS. of course we don’t want to concede. But a 0-0 is the same as a 1-0 to Milan. We need to remove one of Fred and McTominay and put an attacking MF on.
Really good second half this. Pogba made such a difference. He looks comortable playing notionally on the left, but across the forward line. Him and Fernandes have roamed with Fred and McTominay behind. Good stuff.
Pheeoo.. Relieved. This was a tie that United had to win. Pogba made the difference. And great he’s come back for our remaining games. It would have been a shame to be eliminated by Milan which are a shadow of their great teams. Just good to be in the hat for the QFs. BTW For all the **** that we have played sometimes, United have not lost a game in all competitions since Sheffield United stole a win at OT. #Nojinx
I must've posted on the wrong thread earlier. The way Fernandes jumped on Pogba after the goal and the hug between the two at the end of the game says it all really. We've got a midfield again! Please stay fit lads
Of the those teams which were favourites to go through: United or Spurs or Rangers ? Spurs were unbackable with the bookies, then Rangers as they had an away goal. At the end of the evening Spurs snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. Rangers got routed. And we are through. Everyone now accept that we are difficult to beat. Despite an extremely poor first half, a goal was always going to decide the match and ****ing thank goodness pogba provided the one moment of quality.
That bit there has been our problem. We rely too much on that and it needs to change. I don't think any of that really matters btw. Not for me anyway, the real test is how we deal with the QF and SF and whether we can take it a stage further this season.
Perhaps the key for next season is getting Pogba to sign an extended? I would say we should focus on a TOP striker and a central defender. Again, I know many don't like Henderson especially after the first leg, but I think that the defensive line performs better with him in goal as opposed to De Gea. It's been difficult for oppositions to get goals with in between the posts. Great result going away to win yet again. Ole! Ole!! Ole!!!, Ole, Ole!!!!! (I figured that I needed to include that before Christiansmith, Deigo and GF come at me )
Tbf that COULD have been part of the strategy. To score from a moment of quality from one of our players. We have quality players in Fernandes, Rashford and pogba. Whatever his weaknesses the manager is getting the players to play as a team.
Contradiction in terms. But lets not get into that again now. Pogba and Fernandes playing together is what's important. And getting further than the SF this time.
No there is no contradiction at all. playing as a team include looking out for each other, defending together from the front, pressing like today, having the right attitude. Of course the team wanted to counterattack whenever possible. But playing as a team can also include on a few moments of brilliance to get that win. I’ve seen players passing the ball in front of the defence and have 70% possession and lose from not scoring.
