Absolute abortion of a first half, Fred and McT were shocking in their inability to tackle or make a pass and most of the rest were just so poor. The only 3 that came out of that first half looking like professional football players were Shaw (head and shoulders above the rest), Maguire and lindelof.
When Pogba came on the whole dynamic changed and all of a sudden Bruno remembered how to pick a pass and chase down opponents (unacceptable to only play when your mate is fit enough to play).
Happy to go through to the next round but attitudes seriously have to change if we are to progress further in any competition.

If you think playing as a team exclude moments of brilliance then there is no hope for you <laugh>

That first half was absolutely diabolical. Except for the first 10 minutes and Shaw was honest enough to admit it. The second half improvement was more due to that goal rather than Bruno getting Pogba as a mate. Could also have been rashford not fully fit as he was barely running into good positions,

I don't agree with this bit. I just think they are both creative midfielders and play well together.

Fernandes just doesn't have that around him when Pogba isn't there.

And btw the same applies to Pogba when Fernandes isn't there and he bore the brunt of it before Fernandes arrived at the club.

I kind of agree with you but it doesn't change the fact that Bruno's passing was abysmal in the first half and he didn't bother chasing back when he gave the ball away (didn't bother may be a bit harsh) but once Pogba came on his passing and movement improved ten fold.

It's only one game so lets see what happens after a few more. I can understand he's been frustrated recently but hopefully all that will change now.

Btw I don't even feel that goal was a moment of brilliance that came out of nothing. It was anything but. The way we hounded that goal, the numbers pressing forward and the way we passed the ball around created it.

He was poor today but he is entitled to have an off day. Pogba was clearly MOM. Rashford was not fit and possible that affected his game. Like I said earlier Bruno and rashford have not been at their best lately and good time for pogba to take the baton from Fernandes.

You got the wrong poster with this bit <laugh>

i think it was a brilliant goal all round and showcased Pogba's calmness and class in the way he took it but was the product of some great play by several players.

Not really, I'm just saying that they created it.

    Agree with your last bit.

You always seem to misread what I post <laugh>

It wasn't a moment of brilliance, he smashed it in from a few yards out lol. It was a goal created by several players as Diego has said. A moment of brilliance means precisely that... a moment which comes out of nothing. It was far from that. But in the last dozen or so games we've had a lot of goals that have come out of nothing and those are not team efforts unlike tonight's.

Semantics I think. I said earlier he provided that moment of quality. He did sit the GK who hesitated and put it past him brilliantly. Not every player in that team could have finished it like that. So let’s agree then it was created by team effort and finished brilliantly by our brilliant player :D

I don’t mind moments of brilliance (as you define them). If we have more of them than so called team efforts so be it. I’m not too fussed <laugh>

    I don't see a danger anywhere anyway.

Bar Slavia Prague maybe, who Arsenal; have just got!

We really should have the beating of everyone else left in this.

We just have to avoid complacency.

We are avoiding the other big names except Ajax until the Final.

Granada are 8th in La Liga at the moment and are another battling Spanish side although they do seem to struggle to win against any of the top sides in the league, but having said that, they did manage to put three past Barca in the Copa del Ray.

That is the manager’s job, Diego! It is his responsibility to hold the team accountable. To ensure that they perform at a high level whenever they step to the field. Yes, there will be off days, but those need to be an outlier and not form a consistent pattern.

The manager needs to use tools at his disposal such as rotating out players that are not performing to help them regain their perspective. Yes, including the mighty Bruno! Or he needs to know how to tactically man-manage to keep the players hungry and inspire the team to always perform.

All part of manager’s function, my friend!

One of the “top and elite” managers who had the reputation to be the best at this is our friend Jose. We all know how well his current players perform according to his wishes <yikes>

For some reason we’ve historically have had a bad time with Spanish sides. Real sociedad proved less troublesome than I had anticipated. We’ve got to take that first leg seriously. If we could get a comfortable win that would put less pressure at OT.
