Got to thinking the other day that there must be a hell of a lot of football managers out of work and some of them are really top manager/coaches mixed in with a lot of the usual suspects we tend to see in England

    • Valverde
    • Setien
    • Lampard
    • Allegri
    • Sarri
    • Silva
    • Spalletti
    • Dunga
    • Hughes
    • Klinsman
    • Sanchez Flores
    • Mazzarri
    • Viera
    • Wilder
    • Wagner
    • Howe (May have joined Celtic)

Plenty more too and by the end of the season in a few weeks there will be a shed load more like Heckingbottom and Big Sam, Pulis etc.

Whoever takes over from Bielsa will be top drawer as has been said by Kinnear and Radz and in fact Bielsa has already drawn up a list of suitable candidates.

My own personal view is that Eddie Howe should be employed 6 months before Bielsa leaves and comes to learn from him, learn the club and staff, academy etc. Nothing wrong with Eddie doing his own thing when he takes over, but really needs to listen to Bielsa and how he thinks and why he thinks a certain way. There are plenty of Bielsa disciples but they all do it their own way. Pochetino, Pep, Klopp, Sampoale and many more all do a version of Bielsaball, but in their own way and indeed Simeoni does it with a low press and bases it on a solid defence but very quickly turns everything on its head and that’s why he has won so many European competitions and will also win La Liga this season ahead of the usual suspects.

I never want to be associated with names like Pullis, Warnock, Big Mick, Big Sam ever again. I have loved the exotic and the beauty of not seeing snow on the ball.

So who would you like to see, myself it would Jeorge Sampaole who has followed Bielsa in Argentina and indeed the national team, the Chile national team, Mexico clubs and now Olypique Marseille on recommendation of Bielsa.

If Bielsa went, I'd want someone who would be able to understand what Bielsa was building, on, and continue it.

    I'd go for Mauricio Pochettino

    Great thread as always doc,
But I could not stop laughing when I saw Lampard on the list, although he will probably be given the England u21 job.
As I do not expect Bielsa to leave this summer I think we are sorted for next year.
In the future, you make some good calls, can I add Roberto Martinez to that?
I know he is in a job at the moment.

When it’s time for Bielsa to go I want it to be because he was unhappy with the new Billionaire owner coming in and I’d want someone like Pep guiding our new signings to include Haaland ;)

Like most of us, I had never heard of Bielsa, so guessing who might take over - hopefully after we've won our 5th Champions League - isn't worth it. Betcha 90%+ of us get it wrong.

As long as Bielsa chooses his replacement, and carries on his good work, that's fine by me.

The style of football, the training regime, the level of fitness and the work ethic must be continued

All the money time and effort the club have expended in re-engineering everything at the club from the ground floor up would just be wasted if the new guy brought his own team in and ripped it all up. Yes the new guy can add to the academy coaching staff and can change a few tactics on how the age groups train and play to suit the new first team style. But to rip it all up and the watch the academy go into decline whilst kids offloaded and new kids brought in, new coaches etc. Then watch the first team go backwards whilst adapting means losing revenues too.

Much more sensible to bring in a coach who knows what Bielsa was doing accepts everything and adds what he believes will enhance the present set up. Jacko has his 23s smashing the league so why would he want to change the way his kids play the game?

    Morning all

Great thread as ever Doc & all revved up and ready for another game - seems like ages!

For me, the perfect scenario is to bring in Bielsa's successor while he is still here to show them his way (like the old Liverpool Boot Room) or promote him to Director of Football (even if he could work from home in Argentina) or something because, potentially, the biggest problem is, he goes, the whole coaching team leave - I thought they all come as one package? Familiarity with the coaching set up, routines and methods is more than just one man.

The academy coaches are all employed by Leeds Utd, the Bielsa coaching team are employed by him. The likes of Jacko and the other academy coaches work to specific drills devised by the Bielsa boys, but in the main now Jackos lot use what Bielsa brings and adapts it for each game.

Today we see a load if kids in the next round of the FA Youth Cup, so get to see the conveyor belt in action. Max Dean didnt play in the last round and we still won 8-1, wonder if he plays today

If Jacko has a team that smash the league, and does it by playing a certain way, why would he want to change that way of playing in the future? If I was Jacko and had all my coaching badges and had my own ideas of how to coach, but then spend time with Bielsa and put his routines and drills into practice and they turned out to be almost unbeatable...... I wouldnt want to change anything except the odd personal tweak, why would I it works.

You could say that Leeds have spent a lot of money on some of those kids so have some of the best players? Well doesnt that back up what Bielsa is trying to do with the first team. If we had better players we would compete better with top 6 clubs. Having better players means we are harder to beat using Bielsaball

Strangest headline of the day #### Why?
‘I spent four months cycling 9,300 miles home from China to Newcastle’

I think when it’s time for Bielsa to go, we move on and hope that the new man is fully supported in his own methods, players and style of play. You can’t allow an outgoing coach a say on the way forward.

Maybe some of our players have just clicked under Bielsa and under any other coach they’d look half the player.

Hopefully we won’t have to worry about a replacement for a little while yet <ok>

Hopefully Bielsa stays for another year and we strengthen again this summer. That way the squad will be strong enough to survive even without Bielsa.

Not sure another manager would get the same out of these players.

Be interesting to see how many are still selected for the first team that played in the Championship. Meslier, Cooper?, Dallas, Harrison, Struijk?, Bamford.

All the so called football pundits who say Leeds dont know how to defend......... amazing really when you think that since Bielsa arrived we have had CBs that win man of the match and Bielsa insists that his CBs are mobile and ballers. So we started off with Cooper and Berardi, added Ayling into the mix and even Phillips.then Ben White was added and since then have added Struijk and then Koch and Llorente. Llorente has been prominent in all his games since he came into the first team. We now have Ayling, Struijk, Cooper, Llorente and Koch and Bielsa says that Struijk Llorente and Koch can all play as back up to Phillips.our defending cannot be that bad if a raw young keeper can keep 9 clean sheets in the top flight. Yes we have been battered in a few games but have been the better team in some games we lost. So I would say we are better than what they make us outbto be

I think there’s 2 points to our defensive capabilities. Firstly our defenders are expected to press tight and high and intercept where they can... and are expected to be ballers first and pure defenders second. So we rely on them helping us win the ball back quickly and help dominate the ball. They are not therefore likely to be the best natural ‘defenders’ in the traditional sense. Often not the biggest nor therefore the best at set-pieces either.

secondly, as emu mentioned a few times today, we’re at our most vulnerable in transition... more so than other sides because we throw so many players forward. If we give away position on half way when we’re playing out from the back, both fullbacks are bombing forward and we’re outnumbered in transition. It’s why I’ve got frustrated with Raph and Rodrigo in the past - the game at old toilet was the perfect example - and it’s why we struggle without
Phillips who’s the reliable fulcrum and tempo setter when we play out.

what I’m really saying is whether we concede or not is often nothing to do with how well the defenders play. Bielsaball is a well oiled machine and if any part doesn’t function it can go to rat.
