Good Morning. It's Monday 6th April, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

Leeds made loss of 62m last season

Phil Hay revealed over the weekend that Leeds lost a staggering 62m during the financial period July 1, 2019 to July 31, 2020. Some of it was was beyond the clubs control. Fans were banned from attending games for the final third of the season. This led to millions of pounds being refunded. They also had to refund £7m for lost TV rights.

Leeds had an overall turnover of 54m but their total expenses were £108m. Their wage bill was a whopping £78m. Thank goodness we got promoted when we did! Imagine our financial status if we hadn't gone up. It doesn't bare thinking about!

    Whites win Yorkshire derby

A Phil Jagielka own goal four minutes into the second half gave Leeds a five point cushion between themselves in 11th place and Palace in twelfth (Roy Hodgson's men have a tea time KO at Goodison park later). It's a good thing too, as Leeds next three opponents are Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester Utd.

Leeds took the lead after just twelve minutes. Dallas hustled the ball off Stevens, and into the path of Tyler Roberts. The Welsh man squares the ball to Raphinha deep into Blades territory on the right hand side. Raphinha makes a darting run through the penalty area before rolling back a cross for Harrison fired home his seventh goal of the season, one more than he scored last season in the Championship. It was also the Brazilian's 12th contribution (six goals and six assists) this term, from only 23 appearances.

Paul Heckingbottom's team were level on he stroke of half time. McBurnie diagonal shot was heading off target until Ben Osborne made contact at the far post. This was Sheffield Utd's only shot on target throughout the entire game.

Leeds continued to boss the game in the second half but were unable to extend their scoreline despite having 23 shots, mainly due to the impressive Aaron Ramsdale between the sticks.

How much do our Leeds stars make?

Let's take a look at how much money our Leeds stars make each week? Who deserves more? Who deserves to take a cut in salary? Do these figures surprise you?

Well I dispute the wages especially Rodrigo’s which is bollox. The number I saw before he arrived and a week after was £39kpwk I think you’ll find the guy who put this spreadsheet together factored in a 50% bonus on all the players who were not here last season, which makes the whole thing corrupt and worthless and just winds up a few who dislike certain players. We had a£78m wage bill because 50% of it was a bonus to everyone at the club not just players and remember a bonus is a one off payment so even including the new signings this years wage bill will be much less than last seasons

    Morning all,

I do not trust the figures on that spreadsheet one bit, looks like pure guesswork for a lot of players.

Good result on Saturday. Although the scoresheet showed a close result the performance showed different. We outplayed them them for nearly the full 90.

I saw there was anger on social media when the team was announced Saturday. A lot of fans were angry that Cooper was put back into the side ahead of Struijk. I cant help thinking this is just shows that people still let their personal dislikes rule over any footballing nous they may have.

1- Cooper has been excellent this season for the most part and tops most defensive stats for the central defensive position.
2- Cooper is the club captain.
3- Struijk, and he himself will know this, was only ever supposed to be cover for more senior players this season. Yes, because of injuries he has played more than he probably ever dreamed of and he has been brilliant in the most part but he is what he is, cover. That may well change for next season.

When the manager says Cooper was bang at it in training this week, it means he wants his captain on the pitch. Yes he also said Struijk was unlucky as he had done nothing wrong, but thats good isnt it. Cooper knows he has the kid challenging him for the left side CB and Llorente is trying to keep Koch on the bench. Marching On Together had Llorente as man of the match too. Think its great that we have 3 International CBs (4 soon) as plenty were moaning last season as we didnt have any

    Morning all...

I too think those wage figures are a little bit off. Saying that, seeing the likes of the departing Alioski and Pablo and the non featuring Forshaw, Kiko, De-Bock, Berardi and a few others, we have the ability to add a couple of £50k+ a week players should we move a few on.

As a few pointed out on social media, it was go all out for promotion, fail and we’d have cashed in on Kelvin to balance the books.

Saturday was a bit of a strange game, very stop and start at times but we’ll remember it for the three points. Heckingbottom did himself no favours with his after match comments. VAR looked at the Tyler Roberts foul and obviously nothing came of it, a complete disgrace.

From that list I could easily see 8 players leaving and if the wages were correct it would be a saving of £187kpwk

Kiko, Costa, Pablo, Alioski, Forshaw, Berardi, LDB and Bouy

Casilla has 2 years left on his contract. He's on big money. Who's gonna want him?

If Forshaw can show what he can do, then he's worth keeping.

The figures on that spreadsheet are a load of bollox. I added it up. £37mpa. That's £41m short of the stated £78m wage bill.

Now allowing for the £20m bonus paid out, that would mean a wage bill of £58m, Still £21m short.

Yet I'm puzzled. The bonus payout would be in the Championship wage bill, but the new players are part of the PL wage bill. Odd. So what period is this wage bill for?

One other thing - my understanding is that most clubs have a standard promotion / relegation clause in players' contracts. Wages go up when you get promoted, wages go down when you get relegated. Standard. No idea of the percentage, as it's prolly different for every club (this was the original reason for parachute payments, so why do we still have them?). So is this wage bill for PL wages, Championship wages, or a bit of each?

West Ham must be fuming as Declan Rice is out for a month since returning from International duty injured. That could have been us again as we’ve had Llorente’ and Koch both coming back injured and only just getting them back. We could have lost Phillips as Southgate played him in all 3 games.... stupidity

I'd understand playing Kalvin if we played Poland away, Hungary away and then Poland at home. Playing him against San Marino and Albania was taking a liberty.

So the players had no holiday between last season and this except for a few days. Injuries for every team has been the worst ever and yet as soon as this season end which is later than usual, there are going to be players on International duty again who will come back late for pre season and get no break to speak of. We stand a good chance that some will come back injured

So can we please sign enough players to cover unfit players please. Then the fkg World Cup kicks off. We need to insure we dont lose out

Don't know why you're getting so worked up. Partick Thistle, for example, aren't worried about this.

Even this more accurate wage list is way out for most of the named players. Imagine us paying nearly £1m per year in wages to a teen who has never played a first team match for us yet
The top 10 highest paid Leeds United players in 2020/21
    1. Rodrigo, £57,692 a week

    2. Robin Koch, £46,154 a week

    3. Patrick Bamford, £35,000 a week

    4. Helder Costa, £32,500 a week

    5. Gaetano Berardi, £32,308 a week

    6. Kiko Casilla, £32,115 a week

    7. Diego Llorente, £22,000 a week

    8. Adam Forshaw, £20,000 a week
