Well I can only view it from the perspective of anyone else in any other walk of life.
If a new owner/manager takes over and is planning to be progressive and take the company/club forward and I want to be part of that, I’d be busting a gut to prove that I’m worth keeping on.
The side of the coin that you’re looking at is that the people who feel under pressure because they aren’t sure if they will be part of the future will be demotivated and down tools. Whilst under non COVID times there may have been people who would have done exactly that, the pandemic and the lack of income throughout EFL Championship and below means that clubs have had no income for over a year.
There will be a lot of players without clubs this summer and those who want to be employed here or elsewhere need to prove their worth.
Downing tools isn’t really a sensible option.

Whatever the truth of all this, not much I'd expect, there's one thing for sure ...

... KLD, his admin team, the coaching/scouting staff, etc, haven't all come here to hope to cling on in the Championship.

That could've been done by appointing Pulis and forgetting all about everything else.

There's a huge modern infrastructure/investment in place that's been done for one reason only.

Believing in a fairy tale of simply avoiding relegation from the Championship is like thinking that they've started work on the monorail.

Not really a sensible option at all, so you can explain to me why the same players all did it before Johnson arrived?

At that stage we were being run into the ground by Donald and Methven, scrimping on every penny, batteries not being replaced.
We were also being managed by a clown in Parkinson, who had decided to and been allowed to exclude McGeady for best part of 12 months, thereby denying us the supply line which we’ve profited so handsomely from over the last five months.

He couldn’t manage, coach or motivate.
Yes the players should have had a bit of pride in their performance but the management and owners compromised us at every turn.

I get that you disagree with the figures being published, none of us know if the have come from KLD but I’d be surprised if they had.

Either way the ball is in the players court, do the business between now and the end of the season and give yourself the best chance of a new contract.

As others have said, those who choose to toss it off will be gone and rightly so.

Those who apply themselves will be giving themselves the best chance of earning that contract.

Good post. I'd just say that no figures have been published, it's clickbait that's all.

Before Johnson arrived I didn't see a lack of effort ...

... but there was a definite absence of trust, belief, tactics and organisation.

Now we have that, every player seems up for it. Even players like Sanderson, who didn't need to go to Wembley, seem to be part of it all. He and Jones may already know they won't be signing permanently, and maybe more besides, but they all look as if they want to give their all to get us up. This headline is nothing but press speculation based on nothing more than what's true at every club ...

... some players will stay, some wont, no big deal at all.

I agree with you entirely mate I don’t believe there has been any sum put on what’s available, what I’m saying is that it’s best to say nothing if it upsets players at this time of the season because it’s those players that are going to take us up or not take us up and just a few months ago they were more than happy not to take us up, if you don’t agree with that no problem mate my opinion is just different to yours<ok>

Which is exactly what the club has done.

    As you said, it's speculation.

Besides, having money available which we obviously do doesn't mean we'll spend it.

Yeah, no bother at all mate.
Let’s just put Peterborough to the sword today and take it from there.

If nobody has said anything I was just wondering what you are getting extra excited for, seeing as nobody has said anything?

    I'm not, it's a non-story.

The club have said nothing publicly.

Even if player's are released I'm sure they would prefer to have a promotion on their CV.

I have an inkling of the obvious, plan A if we are promoted and Plan B if we are not.

It is common knowledge that lots of players are out of contract at the end of the season anyhow. Depending on 'A' or 'B' nothing can be firmly put in place...although I have an inkling that various lists of ins, outs and profiles of what type of player should be inbound are being put together.

I doubt if even tentative budgets have been seriously discussed too much is unknown.

None of this is startling news I would have thought!

Now with our new owner, it is unlikely that we will be forced to become a 'selling club. However I reckon the financial plight of many clubs will be dire. So many will have to sell their best players, will the price for them be high or low... depends how desperate... we will not be talking about Haarland (sp?) sums here!

Saying players might not be motivated because they think they will be let go if promoted is surely the same as them being let go for not pulling their weight ?.

There are plenty of players up and down the league's who won't win fook all during their careers.
Having just won our first cup/Wembley appearance in what? 48 years. I'm sure/would think at least they have the taste for winning now and want to see this through as professionals.

They could all look back in years to come and say to kids/grandkids.

    "See that team SUNDERLAND,
I helped them get to premier League and European champions"

I think the point is is that the club itself havnt released any figures etc etc. The club has no influence on what external sources or journalists release. If the players believe what's written in the press over what they are potentially being told by their employer then so be it. Peace and love people.

I'm not arguing with that point.
It maybe better not to as you say .
    Then again,
As @The Exile II said "nixon has form for getting it wrong".

The other side of the argument is maybe it will lift the players thinking of more quality to play alongside.
I don't know, but players leave all the time regardless of getting promotion or not.

I know it's a step up in quality but it's not enourmous imo, certainly not like stepping up from the Champo to the Prem. And we won't need to pay a fee for every player we sign, be some frees, some loans and some we actually pay for. Barnsley are a brilliant example of good scouting being better than how much you spend. Went up two seasons ago, spent £5.6 mil but got in £7.4 mil and this season spent £2.7mil and got £2mil back in. So in two seasons, spent about £8.5mil and got in £9.4mil. They're currently fifth. Proof right there that you don't need to spend a massive amount of cash to improve a side.
