Tom, I recognise the adulation of Ings, but in the time I’ve been watching Saints two absolutely outstanding players I always expected to score were Le Tissier and Lambert and rarely did they let me down !

    A) I was too young for Le Tiss in his prime
    B) Rickie was not as clinical as Ings in the PL.

Fortunately witnessed both and felt relieved when they were on the team sheet. Likewise with Ings, and if he eventually decides to stay I'll be delighted. But if not, get the best price and who knows what could happen next.

See a few posts up where a Pompey fan posted on Twitter that we’d lost 2-0. I think the post was a reminder of how wrong Pompey fans are all the time :)

Not just Pompey fans. Take a look at the first 30 minutes of the game on Saintsweb forum. It makes this forum look quite positive! What is it about football fans who can only see the negative even when we are playing well? It’s almost as though some actually want us to fail.

Had to watch yesterday’s game on record (without knowing the result). Even at 0-2 we looked so much more like the team that got to the top of the league. But as is so often the case, small mistakes and VAR was our undoing.

To be fair, in real time the way that we started yesterday and the nature of the second goal was a little bit worrying, we weren't playing well until we scored and that was the moment that kickstarted the recovery as it came not too long after Burnley's second goal.
The last 60 minutes apart from the end when we played a bit too deep was absolutely a return to the early season Saints and we could've scored 5 or 6.
It must be remembered that this was the first win at SMS since the Liverpool match in January and we had lost the last game there to Brighton so a negative response to going 2-0 down to Burnley was understandable.

    Yes, I agree.
Footy fans being negative despite a great result is absolutely normal.

Just saying that the way we started it was understandable that fans were a bit worried given our league form of late but I agree that it was a great comeback and result.

It occurs to me that supporters will always find fault with their own team, when they are discussing performances with other supporters of the same team. However, if/when a supporter of a different club suggests that 'we' played badly/aren't the real deal/will go down, all 'home' supporters will close ranks, and defend their own team, whatever the circumstances.

In short, we can moan about Saints, and moan about moaners, but we are all Saints supporters, and will always disagree about anyone else's opinion. I have to say that it was difficult to be positive towards Leicester and Man Utd fans on a couple of occasions, but no-one else gets to diss our team.

0-1bloody typical, we shouldn’t be losing to this team
0-2 what did I tell you? We are rubbish at the moment. Couldn’t buy a win!
    1-2 too little, too late!
2-2 well we don’t really deserve anything from this game and they have gifted us a draw.
3-2 well ok, but what happened until we woke up.

    My thoughts yesterday

0-1 slow start, gifted them a pen
0-2 never dealt with a basic long ball, Wood was bullying us a bit worrying
1-2 good goal, happy we got back into the game quickly
2-2 delighted we got back level before Dyche had a chance to organise them at half time
3-2 fully deserved winner and could have been a few more

A bit worried is understandable but the reaction on Saintsweb was way beyond that. My main point though was we always played the better football. The penalty was correct but ignored the foul on KWP a few seconds earlier was missed. The goal from the long ball was well taken (no criticism on Fraser given the speed) but the build up was classic long ball. Not pretty at all and Bedders / Jan did not cover it well. Yes Burnley pressed well for a few minutes but you could see it did not unnerve us and we soon adapted.

Overall though both teams contributed to a great game of football. And I would have said that even if we had lost!

Rickie came to the PL late in life. Had he spent his formative years at PL clubs with appropriate nutrition and training I believe he would be every bit as good as Ings.

I would add Mane to the list of lambert and le tissier. I know he wasn’t here that long but he is a rare talent.

He is. But certainly with us, you never felt confident that when he got the ball he'd definitely score. It was usually either score/heavy touch/boot ball into space. His ratio on those has definitely improved, but he's not the natural finisher a Danny/Tiss/Rickie is. His qualities lie elsewhere (as well as being a decent finisher).

TBF I was more confident he would score a penalty than Ings! :)

Edit: Oops I just saw Rickie in the quote and assumed you were talking about him!

Danny/Tiss/Ings? Three players? Or is Danny Ings so good you named him twice? :1980_boogie_down:
