It's come round again, only 5 months after the last one. I would love Lee Westwood to win, he's playing well, his son on the bag, and he deserves at least one Major to his name.
Interesting to hear McIlroys interview yesterday. He's employed Pete Cowan as his coach over the guy he's been with since he was 12... seems all the technical stuff might have gone out of the window... a story from ages ago... Colin Montgomery had shot something like 74 in the first round of a tournament. He called his wife saying this went wrong etc.... she replied ' FFS Colin just hit it, you cant do anything else'... he shot 63 the next day... maybe Mcilroys missus has had a word... I've backed Corey Connors at 100/1... playing well lately, including at the Players..
In golf particularly you can get bogged down with overthinking the technical side of the game, sometimes just revert to what comes naturally and it can work.
I have a sneaky suspicion that a little known Aussie Cameron Smith will go one better this year and win it .. would love to see Westy don the green jacket mind but but might be a tough ask 4 rounds on aging legs round this course.
What a round by Rose ... If Westwood is not going to be anywhere near, Rose is the next person I would love to win the jacket
Wonderful round by Justin Rose, he seemed to buck the trend as many others struggled. Pity Westwood seems to have blown his chances already unless he can come up with a low score in the 2nd round. Like ...., I would be delighted if Rose can win it, as he has been runner up twice.
After the brutal day yesterday think they've put a bit of water down .. greens certainly not as fast and also looking more receptive. Still liking the look of Cameron Smith creeping up through the field .. think the cut mark will be +4, so Westy needs a few birdies today
Two-time runner-up Rose has experience of leading at the Masters but has previously failed to turn those advantages into victories at Augusta National. This was the fourth time the 40-year-old topped the field heading into day two, a feat matched only by record six-time champion Jack Nicklaus, and he has now led or co-led a round on seven occasions - the most of any player to not win a Green Jacket. 40? I can’t believe he’s 40, Jesus time flies.. could it be his year ??? We’ll all find out on Sunday...
I like the look of Hideki Matsuyama. It might have something to do with having a nibble on him at 50/1. I also have Zalatoris but things can change quickly in the Masters with 11 to go.
