What else would you call it? A spiteful comment that makes you sound as childish as you do clueless? Just because your fanbase assumes all their players are world class doesn't mean other sets of fans are as painfully insecure Now scuttle off back to the Pond Life board where you belong
Did you hear the lack of surprise when you admitted you don't have a clue what you're talking about? And it's obvious that Prince Harry is world class, considering all he has to do is show his face in public and he takes another few weeks off of Piers Moron's lifespan
Yes, because that is what my comment said, and definitely not something completely different that anyone with basic reading comprehension could have worked out for themselves...
If you keep trying, and I mean really try, you might figure out what my post said So maybe take an hour or so to mull it over, eh?
Re Andy Cole He improved Bristol City went he went on Loan there. He improved United when he went there and was a key player in 1999-2001, scoring in key games. Improved Blackburn, was key to them beating us in the 2002 league cup final. Not world class (England record shows that) but bloody good striker imo. Re Shearer Important at Southampton, Blackburn and Newcastle. Missed well over a year of his career through injury and some of his top division goals aren't included cos they were pre Premier league. Not world class but an excellent striker who I have some time for cos he chose Newcastle (the team he supported) over United where he'd have been guaranteed trophies. (Not a dig at united btw...just admire him acting like a fan and wanting to be a legend at the club he supported). Darren Bent Ipswich relegated...he scored a lot Charlton relegated...he scored a lot Spurs had their worst two seasons from 2005 to present and their worst EVER start to a season...he scored a fair few Sunderland did OK...he scored a fair few Villa...nearly relegated...he scored Derby....were top of championship when he joined in jan but finished 7th... he scored a few. Suggests that he offered nothing but some goals at the expense of the team...or was the unluckiest charm ever...or was badly used by every club bar Sunderland.
I'm a bit too young to remember the 94 world cup properly, albeit I did have the Panini sticker collection and spent many hours marvelling over the fact that they called it 'soccer', the stadiums held over 100,000 fans or more, and Carlos Valderrama's hair. That said, I was definitely old enough for Euro 96 and to my mind I'm yet to see an England team with better balance and/or playing better football. It also helped that the manager wasn't afraid of actually playing the game.
Darren Bent remains the only player in footballing history to have picked up an assist from a beach ball. That makes him world class by my reckoning.
The interesting hung is how strikers such as Shearer, Cole, Fowler etc were deployed during their pomp Shearer's most prolific seasons was when he was half of a Twin Towers pairing, with Chris Sutton at Blackburn or Les Ferdinand at Newcastle, although for England he always performed better with Teddy Sheringham loading the bullets for him as Twin Towers pairings never really work in international football. Similarly, Fowler was in Twin Towers pairings with Ian Rush or Stan Collymore Cole always worked best with a partner who played deeper, be it Peter Beardsley at Newcastle or Dwight Yorke at Man Utd Why's this interesting? Well, for one thing it shows the difference in what strikers are, as there were very few in that era capable of playing up top on their own like modern strikers do, and also how teams were set up so that if the main scorer didn't bang one in they had someone else who could - and these days wide players are used for that, be it Son for us, Gnabry for Bayern, Sancho for Dortmund, and so on
The 2018 side was certainly balanced and picked a team based on how they would perform as a team, rather than a bunch of names who would play like a bunch of players chucked together with no plan Although that has been beaten out of Southgate ever since...
Football has definitely changed. That's one of the reasons I find it impossible to compare players from different generations.
Right, but they faced crap opposition and played largely crap football. Unless I was just swept up by the excitement of Euro 96, I distinctly recall England playing excellent football throughout and facing some serious opposition in both the group stage and the knockout.
That's the thing with Euro 96: they didn't face serious opposition In the group stage the Dutch would have been a formidable opponent, but they were a mess in that tournament due to infighting and egos undermining the team from the outset, Scotland would have been up for the game but were...well Scotland, while the Swiss had Ramon Vega at the back so were hardly the team they are these days In the knockouts they also should have been knocked out by Spain, but the officials missed a clear goal, and the Germany team that ultimately knocked them out certainly weren't a vintage German side barring Klinsmann and Sammer which was summed up when Croatia obliterated them at the 1998 World Cup
8 of the 10 largest sports stadiums in the world are in the US and they all belong to universities. Ohio State has an annual ticket revenue of over $51m. They don't pay the players.
Strikers are one player group you can compare across the generations (re the data analytics mentioned in a recent post to Spurlock) . Which is why I know that Greavsie and Shearer were great top-flight English league strikers in their time, as Kane is in his. And all without seeing every minute of every such game they ever played.
