Feeling sorry for Villa, how the hell did they end up behind Leeds in the table and now sorry Palace make sure they will not be edging us out anytime soon
So the VAR bloke today , who missed 2 assaults from Sterling, also the thigh high challenge on Raphinha was the one last week that missed the assault from Baldock on Roberts but managed to get the ref to look at Coopers challenge. Erm, like to know his reasoning on these decisions
Sorry mate, in my opinion that’s bollocks. Offside was introduced to stop an attacker gaining an unfair advantage over the defender. Pointing to where you want the ball doesn’t do that. The minute you need to draw lines, you can **** off and let the game go on. We watch football to see goals not to watch some geometry nerd draw lines to prevent them.
It's OK mate. No need to apologise. I agree. I have always said that the video ref in rugby would struggle in football. If it was up to me I would bin VAR. It removes the emotion from the game. When we score now my instant thought it "what's wrong with that? Are they looking at something?" instead of the raw emotion of scoring a goal. In rugby (well, league at least) there are loads of tries in a game. In football there are often games with just one goal so emotions are heightened. My point was that it doesn't matter where you put the lines. You will still have lines. As Jock says, that makes it a binary decision instead of a person's view on it.
You’ve nailed it there for me. Can’t celebrate a goal because some one in stockly park is looking for any reason to disallow it
Hi guys missed the game today but we did very well. I see Bamford did not get much praise but he set dallas up nicely. Then of course he was subbed early but roberts was left on and he was pulled around the usual 60 minutes. So was roberts a waste of a place once again. Also was bamford struggling with fitness. Did we go five at the back?.
Does make you wonder, a lot of discrepancy in his decisions, especially as they all went against us. These observations aren't sour grapes either, as we won both games.
Bamford did OK. Tough to really judge him as he went off before half time. I think his entire first half consisted of a couple of crosses that imo he overran so they went behind him, a couple of flicked headers, a lovely touch for an assist and nothing much else (he might have blocked a shot with his chest). Stones and Ake were allowed to waltz in to midfield with the ball unchallenged alot which has to be Bamford and Roberts area to cover. Tough game for both really as we weren't going to have the ball alot. As for Roberts, he was very hit and miss. Won a couple of free kicks, had some really clever turns, some nice passing in the city half interspersed with a few poor decisions. Defensively he did OK but as I said above he didn't really block the City defenders walking through the middle of our team. It was clear that it wasn't his type of game as it was attack vs defence so it looked a tactical change. In the second half we pretty much went Meslier in goal and 9 at the back! It appeared that all of the central players were to keep it narrow and deep with Rapha and Costa breaking from deep with pace supported by Alioski who showed a terrific engine. We spent most of the second half within 35 yards of our goal. Rapha and Costa were pretty much playing full back, winger and striker in one go. Both were fantastic with 10 men.
Thought the whole defence was immense and both Costa and Raphinha worked hard. Raphinha is different class and Costa looked threatening at times, even on the left. He needs to do a lot more of that. First half Bamford was on a couple of times but final balls from both wings and Phillips went astray. A great ball from Roberts ended up with Bamford missing it. Terrible free kicks and corners went astray as we couldn't lift the ball. Another day and we could have been 2 or 3 up at half time. Game obviously changed then when Cooper walked so bye bye Bamford and then Roberts but hello brave defence
We won....end of..and we play all the way for Leeds United, elland road is the only place for us... magnificent defensive performance and let's give it the 2 red stumps up next
Loved the way Meslier ran the length of the pitch to celebrate the winner. Certainly not the actions of a playing wanting out
Bielsa should question the officials but we know he won’t. Can you imagine if that had happened to fergies team!! all hell would of broke loose. Sterling is a dirty racist cnut who needs sorting out in a hefty challenge, Fernandinho should have walked and one I think was missed was Citeh’s keeper won the ball off Raphinha with a two footed lung? just ask yourself if a played had done it in open play what would be said!! The officials are completely sh I te, I wonder if they ever played the game and if so what standard.
I've just had a read of 4 forums of other PL teams on their matchday threads, mixed views on Cooper's red some saying yellow others definitely a red. Yet no dispute at all about Mariner's inept display, all mentioning how the hell did Sterling get away with those 2 challenges, Fernandinho should have seen red too, offside for their goal, non even reviewed or referred by VAR , and where did he get to play 7 minutes of injury time after the board showed 3. A few mentions too,of how Jesus managed to rise again as the red was given. It's good to know that we're not biased and othersp saw it the same way too. Makes the win even better the fact we won even against all the ineptness,I'm being kind calling it that, of the officials. It needs someone in the game to have the balls to call these decisions out.
I agree mate who has the balls to do it? If a manager, a club or a player they get big fines. Media are all biased one way or the other. They all agree that VAR has been crap but none of them expect much change for next season. Even Lineker has given up talking about it as the offside rule has been ignored and a non rule allowed to take priority now. In other words level isn not on side anymore its now a slide rule and made up lines so a guy with longer arms is offside even though his feet are 2 feet behind the line? The only way is for all the clubs to refuse to play with VaR and they demand existing laws are adhered to exactly the same in every match. Consistency required
