He barely touched him, and certainly not intentionally. Not a foul in my book. Seen far worse than that ignored. Son went down and made a complete and utter meal of it, trying to get the referees to buy it.
I think the ref got it right. Foul but not enough for a 2nd yellow. It was an accident but McTominay used his arm unfairly by catching him in the face.
Honestly if that's considered a foul, we might as well make football a non-contact sport where any touch is an instant FK
I can understand why the referee decided to award the FK once he reviewed it, But for me, the VAR should have never asked him to have a look at the monitor. It was barely anything, soft as you like. Foul or no foul, it didn't warrant an overturn. I don't want VAR being used for that. Right decision at least to not give a second yellow.
That could have been really bad for Shaw, with his leg planted. He's lucky not to have gotten injured there.
That likely puts paid to any chance of Mourinho making CL. 7 points out with four teams to pass just isn't happening. You love to see it.
Whilst it is completely laughable that any PL club should pay that sort of money for them, they should all do well in the Championship next season (there's no prospect of another PL club coming in for them). And therefore whoever gets the manager's job will be well placed to challenge for an immediate return. For anyone willing to manage in the Championship, joining them could be very shrewd.
They're definitely a good bet to bounce straight back up. The team is loaded with veteran Championship players, few of whom will be in particularly high demand from PL sides. Whether it's to Sheffield United's long-term benefit to field an expensive team that can scrape its way back into the top division while lacking the talent to stay there is another matter.
