It’s all over t’interweb. Suggesting $6m for him. Seems like clickbait with little or no evidence to support it. Would he want more cash and a season or more on the bench?
Given the opportunity of a EPL contract with a team that has a good season would be tough to resist for Dieng. It’s taken his opportunity for first team football and he would want to maximise his window of opportunity I would imagine. He would certainly be a loss given it’s his first season between the sticks for us and there is hopefully much more for him to show, consolidate and add to his value.
He is 26 and spent a lot of time waiting for first team football, would he want to go and warm their bench? I guess Smithies was happy to sit on his arse for a few years.
He's been their main keeper but was out earlier in the season with a mystery illness which occurred during a match.
I can't see why West Ham would want or need Dieng. They have Fabianski, who's playing well with Darren Randolph as back up. Plus they have the former England U20 keeper Nathan Trott who looks like a good prospect. If he stays or goes the club will lose him for up to a month as Senegal have qualified for the African Cup of Nations.
Clubs will want him on their books as they know he has great investment potential. Personally he's been a highlight this season and needs to be a main part of next season's attempt to get promoted. If he goes it will be another mid-table season of nothing with no ambition from the owners.
Before we all get wound up about ‘ambition’ let’s remember the financial reality of this club and the business model in place to help us survive. If we can get £6m for Dieng it’s good business, as long as we have a replacement who is a bit better than a liability in goal. A shame to lose a good player, of course, but we better get used to it, and enjoy the good players while we have them.
Kelly the Scot is off to Motherwell for some money. The youngster is called up to the England goalie training school.. We have Lumley out of contract in the summer and Barnes!!!!!
I know we don’t rate Lumley, but we’ve had Dieng since 2016 and it’s only this season he’s been thought good enough for the first team. Perhaps the Polish kid is decent.or buy one for much less than we sell Seny for. If we sell him at all.
