He hits him in the face. It's clearly a deliberate action and anything Son does is irrelevant. It's not an instinctive reaction and even if it was, it wouldn't matter. If Son fouls McTominay, it doesn't allow him to get away with fouling him back.
He brushes him off instinctively; I'm not sure how you can come to any other conclusion on the footage in real time. Where's the evidence he intentionally hit him in the face? McTominay has his head up, is running forward into space and is "tackled" from behind by a player he can't see who is attempting to pull him back. I don't agree that Mc Tominay is not allowed, within the rules, to break free of an illegal challenge. There was no time for pre-meditation; and how on earth would he know where Son's face is? He simply reacts to a hand across his chest by taking evasive action. If that's a foul, then what force are players allowed to use when avoiding or evading fouls in a so-called contact sport? And if VAR considers that a foul in the build up should be taken into account when awarding a goal, then the first foul is by Son - so why penalise the team it was committed against? And Son going down for three minutes and needing the physio was so OTT and probably influenced the officials. We aren't going to agree, I know, but I think you would see it differently if the booty was on the other foot.
McTominay's hand is beyond Son's. He can't be trying to fend off his arm, as he doesn't remotely try to touch it. It's not evasive action. He can see the other player right before he lashes out. He knows exactly what he's doing.
But unless he's got eyes in the back of his head or rear view mirrors, he's unaware of Son until Son's arm comes across him. You can argue about what he intends - but that's entirely subjective. Your view seems to be based entirely on an assumption about his state of mind. On what we can see, he brushes him off and the contact is minimal. He's penalised for contact - and that's the issue. Is he entitled to fend off an illegal challenge on him or does he have to take the foul? If the latter is the case, then trying to pull players back and taking a booking doesn't carry much risk, does it?
Son's not behind him when he receives the ball. Pause it after a second and he can clearly see him completely. He's not unaware of him, at all. He's penalised for striking another player in the face. You seem to believe that he's free to commit any foul he wants if he perceives one to himself. If you pull back a player, then you're supposed to receive a booking, though McTominay didn't later on, unsurprisingly. You're not supposed to hit them in the face and then claim victimhood.
A caretaker right now is the most viable option and just about anyone would seem suitable. Jose just has to go, I wanted it to work for him but it’s been a disaster and the longer he stays the more poisonous it’ll get. Club’s in a real mess though, too many bad decisions in recent years has been haunting us and will continue to do so for some time I imagine.
The ‘unbiased pundits’ claimed that he only made contact with Son’s face because he was running away from hin. Tell me Luke, when have you ever seen any elite athlete throw his arm sideways while trying to run. McTominay certainly knew what he was doing.
If McT had thrown hs arm sideways he would have missed Son completely. He waved his arm backwards to try and brush off Son's arm because he was pulling him back, unfortunately his rear sonar was off and instead of pushing Son's arm/shoulder his fingertips brushed his baby soft cheek.
So Son was at the side of him not a full stride behind, leaning forward to pull him back by the shirt?
Personally I couldn't care about him being sent off or booked but the bollocks bring thrown around at Son is a joke. If "he was touched" is an excuse for players to go down then why the media out cry about Son? It's the same with Kane. He goes down when touched and there is a load of bollocks spoken in the media. The same does not happen with Vardy or Fernandes or Jesus or Zaha or... Slag them all off or admit your biased. OGS was a two faced prick with his comments yesterday. He mosns but defends his players doing exactly the same thing. I hate diving but ffs it's epidemic and singling out Son and Kane while ignoring the others is a joke. People laughed at Lacazette screams...not a single accusation of him being a cheat was thrown around in the media though. I get fans are wums and biased but the pundits and media in general are biased beyond a joke.
Long time lurker first time writer. Tough few days so thought I’d give my two cents to distract me. Just a few views on the current state of us. I was all for the Jose appointment, I thought he knows this is his last chance at anything resembling a big club and his pride had been dented by people like pep or Klopp jumping ahead of him so he would do everything he can to restore his reputation. Tried to defend him up until Xmas but the horrible run culminating with the Brighton game changed my mind. Yes, what he has to work with is pretty average but then don’t focus on our defence, he’s (or was) a top manager. If you don’t have the likes of terry and carvalho then come up with a different way to play. Now the excuses start coming and never his fault despite seemingly picking whichever 4 defenders he didn’t throw under the bus the last week. He should try this thing called coaching where you try and make players better or come up with a way to work to your strengths. Every game we’ve had a chance to make real progress in the league we’ve dropped points (offf the top of my heads Chelsea home, Liverpool twice, Newcastle last week and there’s probably more). His comeback to the boggle eyed hobbit with his stupid voice is the best thing he’s done in ages. If he’s still there when a sizeable amount of fans are allowed in then I hate to think what the atmosphere will be like. Onto the team, I was someone who thought we had a good transfer window, getting Doherty so cheap seemed a great deal but it’s been a total disaster. You could point to him not playing in a back 4 which you could maybe get away with early doors but he’s not improved one bit and is even terrible at the wingback parts such as crossing. Bale gave a great feel good factor at the time but another waste. Hjolberg, great addition. Vini I just feel sorry for as we have no idea if he’s a good buy as not had a proper chance. Think I’d only keep about 5 or 6 of the current senior players (not including players like rodon or tanganga in the senior players). Problem is we won’t be able to shift the deadwood as teams that are at their level don’t have money due to covid so we won’t have money to spend through player sales unless Kane or son do go. Sorry for the essay but good to take my mind off a few things.
Ask @brb to do it or the site throws a wobbly EDIT..........you may be ok since you have very limited number of posts.
