Also within the same article was this interesting quote.

Consistent on-field improvement has proved hard to come by of late, and forward progression has been more Milan Djuric than Tammy Abraham. A genuine assault for promotion has never arrived, despite insistence from the club owner that the top six should have been achieved in the previous two years.

I thought Scudamore was part of an American sporting thing now.

17 mins on......the point of having decent enough squad...injuries and Ashtons medical team being mainly our downfall on the pitch, but has been very fundamental towards our infrastructure which most of us don't get to see and possibly haven't appreciated....interesting!!!
I hope we (SL) don't do what we tried to do when replacing LJ......end up taking a step backwards.

18 minutes Gregor says a value that seems to been rumoured for Semenyo.

Ashton can do one and take the majority of our waster players with him as far as I'm concerned.
So it was somewhat satisfying to see that Ipswich were battered 3-0 at Wimbledon yesterday evening and the way they are going, they won't make the L1 playoffs either <laugh>

Bristol City consider Director of Football as Richard Scudamore's position becomes clear
Former Premier League chief is the fans' choice to succeed outgoing CEO Mark Ashton.
    https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport...istol-city-consider-director-football-5295714

Richard Scudamore has no interest in joining the club. Two early names to emerge who do hold an interest, however, are Adrian Bevington, former FA Club England Managing Director from 2010 to 2015, and Richard Gould, CEO of Surrey County Cricket Club.

Bevington is a Middlesbrough fan and has extensive communications expertise, working in the role of Head of Recruitment Operations at his hometown club.

He has previously worked in an advisory role for Aston Villa too.

Meanwhile, Gould, the son of retired former football manager Bobby, worked at Ashton Gate as commercial manager previously (2001-2005) before becoming CEO at Surrey and has further football links too. He attended Bristol Grammar School and later became CEO at Somerset County Cricket Club.

Father Bobby played for both Bristol City and Rovers, managing the Gas twice, and son Richard has some influential local references behind him.

Just a thought, we have no need to have any guilt conscientiousness with recent sackings, LJ is now nicely settled at Sunderland, Dean Holden is assistant manager at Stoke and Mark Ashton has got a bright future at Iswich Town, they all have one major desire and that is maximum success for their individual clubs in the football pyramid. Bristol City FC will be just fading memories to all of them.

Perhaps we the fans can now settle down, join together and support our club as one entity.

So a young professor Snape and Mcboatface, claim we have a decent squad?, so how come without all of this seasons injuries (that haven't helped I agree) were they so poor from January last year until the end of the season? A squad that used Korey Smith as their back up right back because other than Hunt they had no other specialist right back on the books (no wonder he wanted out), a squad that had to use Rowe for most of the season as it's left back because again other than the usually injured DaSilva (who I rate) we had no specialist back up left back and a midfield that would struggle against the women's team.

My argument would always be a decent squad would be far more consistent, not one that went on longish unbeaten runs and then long barren runs, not being regularly outplayed and bullied against the relegation fodder of this league.

I wholly agree with the very last sentence, SL has the biggest decision of his ownership of BCFC, he needs to get the next bit correct and quickly, no more cheap options give us what you promised and failed to deliver almost 12 months ago. We have an opportunity with 14 players out of contract most of whom are not good enough and quite a few who are big earners and many of our rivals embargoed for the first month of the January window.

SL should use this opportunity to embrace the fact that maybe one of his 5 pillars seems to be bearing fruit, the emergence of Semenyo, Bakinson, Oleary, Bell, Pearson, Towler and Conway, with Nurse, Pring and Britton and others waiting in the wings for their chances, what is needed now is some quality at right back, midfield and up top to balance the squad and added sorely needed quality.

That's football though sometimes isn't it? Take Liverpool last season, (I'm not comparing them with us before you start) all gelled, played with confidence....ran away with the Premiership....this season, struggle to buy a win.......may well not be featured in the Champions league next season......same squad of players..just not happening for them.........or they've been found out!!
I think we both agree or agreed that last season and this season we have a range of players that can play decent football and occasionally showed signs with results that were encouraging......but failure both last and this season to sign quality players to strengthen at the back, enhance the midfield with creativity and have an out and out leader on the pitch, along with more of our fair share of injuries has been our downfall.......
First part of the season, Deano managed decent results and was able to get something out of the players but lacked ideas and experience to maintain anything consistent and lost control as soon as the bubble burst. But again I believe some lack of quality and that leader was a major contribution to that..I also think that is where Nige hasn't done as well......I would take a guess, that all looks reasonable in training sessions but then falls apart within a match.
It will be interesting if Nige stays, what players he will want to hang on to what type of players he will be looking to bring in......what style of football he feels is the way to progress out of the championship............but like we all agree.....the decision of the manager needs to be done now......otherwise I see us on a relegation battle next season..with panic buys and panic appointments

I agree with most of this but I have to say that inconsistency is and has been our problem since January 2018 and it was allowed to continue unabated for far too long and as Pearson rightly pointed out, we cannot waste anymore time on players, who have failed for far too long, it's mainly the same players over this period, they have had more than enough chances and failed to show consistency and in some cases effort. 3 managers/coaches and god knows how many coaches during that time have also failed, we have to use this opportunity to move on.

I think your analogy about Liverpool sort of gives creedence to how good SAF actually was in his Manu tenure, by breaking up winning teams at the right moment and rebuilding without losing that competitive edge, something that Klopp and various other top 6 premiership managers have never quite emulated, the exception being Pep.

I will say, that maybe some of those players you mention that have had more than enough chances and failed to show consistency would act differently and show more quality to their game with better players around them.....especially those that have flair.......they need workhorses around for them to shine properly..

I think that is the problem, the players that I am thinking of have had their share of workhorses in the guise of Brownhill, Smith and now Massengo and Nagy and they are still poor and the player who should be a workhorse up front Diedhiou wouldn't even qualify as a cart horse, time to move on.

Start trusting the academy players coming through and add some much needed quality in the areas that I quoted, instead of taking a punt on the Watkins, Patersons, Adelakums etc. of the lower leagues, IMHO they are no better than some of our own academy players.

This might not be universally agreed upon but if a significant offer came in for Bentley, I would personally let him go, we have 1 keeper ready to take over in Oleary and another 2 up and coming keepers in Woolacott and Wiles Richards and younger up and coming keepers in Buse and Robertson, if it increases our ability to attract some quality it might well be a worthwhile exercise.

Ashton's first job might be to sack Paul Cook.

Portsmouth under Danny Cowley, and Ipswich under Paul Cook possibly both won't even make the L1 playoffs which is a failure on their part given the size of the respective clubs, not that the size of the club is always a good or fair guide as to whether or not they should expect any success.

As City fans, we know all to well how difficult it can be to get out of that HORRIBLE little league (League 1). We've spent most of my supporting life in it (which is one of the reasons that I don't see the LJ era as a complete disaster).
Coventry took a while to escape from it - as did Sheffield United - and Nottingham Forest when they were last there.
I never want to see us in that Godforsaken backwater of a league again.

Indeed. People say the Championship is the hardest to get out of, but League 1 has it's challenges too.
I've no time for the Gas, but it's rubbish that the one of the biggest cities in England has a struggling Championship club and next season almost certainly a L2 club.

If Sunderland under LJ achieve promotion some people on here will credit him with that honour with trumpets, even though he inherited most of his squad, he deserves that regard and I think quite rightly, I wonder if those same individuals will give Nigel Pearson the same high regard and credit for saving our higher league status with the huge injury list and squad of players he inherited.

I think NP's achievment merits the same regard and I hope he becomes our long term manager, he is made of the right stuff.
