Number 47. One house off a ten foot. Went down recently and the ten foot was gated. Also one way system and you couldn’t enter from Beverley Road. Times change!
Justin is a great bloke. Here he is at one of the OSC events. He joins in our zoom chats every week and his footballing tales are great.
My husband's grandfather was at that game and a little over 40 years later was with my husband and his dad to watch Hull City play their first game at Boothferry Park.
Interesting that City & Peterborough are top scorers so far this season with 71 and 70 respectively. Anyone remember 'The Watney Mann Invitation Cup' (The Watney Cup) in the early 70's? Set up as a pre-season comp for the 8 top scorers in the previous season ( 2 per division). Season 69/70 we scored 72 and went into the hat with Sheff Utd. First game we played was against ... yes ... Peterborough away. Walloped them 4-0. Then made history in the semi -final v Man Utd. Although we hadn't been top scorers in the previous season (other clubs didn't take up the invite) we then got to the final 3 years later v Stoke 73/74 & lost 2-0 at their ground. And then the comp was dropped.
I think one of the stipulations was that you could only be in it if you didn't get promotion or into Europe.
True values, and as appropriate today as they were when this was written. P.S. Interesting it refers to us as Amber and Back not Black and Amber?
Must admit growing up I always put Amber before Black, and I'm not that old, sort of middling for on here!
My parents and I were there in the 1940s and 1850s. Moved there in 1939 from Sculcoates Lane house that backed on to the power station ( now gone). I think that was a good move on the part of my mom and dad!
Mine had a mega thick air raid shelter in garden. Had to borrow extra money to get rid and get a garage
