Statement from the Glazers regarding the ESL fiasco - 'We continue to believe that European football needs to become more sustainable throughout the pyramid for the long-term, however, we fully accept that the Super League was not the right way to go about it. Over the past few days, we have all witnessed the great passion which football generates, and the deep loyalty our fans have for this great club. You made very clear your opposition to the European Super League, and we have listened. We got it wrong, and we want to show that we can put things right. Although the wounds are raw and I understand that it will take time for the scars to heal, I am personally committed to rebuilding trust with our fans and learning from the message you delivered with such conviction.' #Bollocks
How do you rebuild trust that was never there? On another note, hope everyone who ever in any way backed this bunch up can now see what's been (or should have been) clear from the minute they walked through the door.
According to Deloitte this plan has been hatched over the last five years and has been the major reason that the Glazers retained their ownership of the club, despite several serious offers in that time. It is thought that involvement in the ESL would have added as much as 25% to the value of the club and the Glazers have been holding out for that increased share valuation to cover losses. As club revenues have been hit so badly by Covid and the anticipated meteoric rise in share prices has failed to materialise, some good may yet come of it all if the Glazers look to bale out of the club. Never mind Saudi owners - I'd have Osama bin Laden ownership over the Glazer parasites
I have to say that Abramovich has to be one of the best owners across Europe. If we could get someone like that, it would be great for the club. I don’t know about those Saudi owners.
Not sure how he's such a great owner? He sacks managers for fun and has been known to influence player purchases which have gone against the manager's wishes.
United is a PLC and owned by investors. As it happens the way the equity is distributed the controlling share is with the GGs. What we have to do is to make sure that that control is removed from them even if they don’t sell up their shares. Control to the rest of the investors.
I'm afraid it isn't that simple. The Glazers by name are the principal shareholders in Manchester United, however, their collective shareholdings are spread around in various other funds and PLC's of which they have overall control. lt isn't a question of removing shares from the Glazers sideboard when they aren't looking, the structure of their ownership is deliberately convoluted top minimise their individual exposure to taxable benefit derived from share ownership. The shares may rise or fall, but it is the dividend that the Glazers benefit from. Even tax paid on dividend income is tax-deductible from the overall income of the institution that holds those shares (in the Glazer's name)
