A little bit of perspective

Discussion in 'Sunderland' started by vinkel, Apr 25, 2021.

  1. That’s a bit harsh in my view. Burge has made errors and you always have a feeling there’s a mistake somewhere, but he has improved hugely since LJ arrived and has made some excellent saves over that time.
The apparent lack of communication yesterday is more of a problem.... it wasn’t just the og,there were a couple of other occasions before that. Is it a lack of decisive calling or a mutual lack of confidence with our defenders.

Then again he wasn't forced to play o'nien at centre back, as much as I love him I still think Younger would have been a better option, then we could have had him playing in the middle with Neil as I honestly believe that they would be are most creative midfielders.
Then when Mcglauglin was fit Power could have taken up his most affective position on the bench

Taken from Roker report. Not great is it.
    Flanagan - 14 starts
    Hume - 15 starts
    McLaughlin - 20 starts
    Sanderson - 19 starts
    Willis - 14 starts
    Wright - 29 starts
    Xhemajli - 0 starts.

As the OP stated we have done remarkably well considering.

If John was Adam he might try
    Patterson
    O/9 Younger Almond Hume
    Gooch Leadbitter Neil
    Diamond Wyke McGeady
Bench Burge or anybody, Bailey-Wright Jones Power Maguire Stewart.
I would then get the pray mats out for Sanderson and McLlaughlans return asp.
PS someone suggested somewhere that Wyke could cover the center back role in an emergency and this is not a bad idea tbh.
Its make or break time imo.and hes tried everything else recently, as we slowly crumble. (two posts for the price of one).

I don't dislike mcfadzean, he's just not as good as Hume.

The name of Dave Watson comes to mind when I read this - although I am (just) young enough to only remember him as a centre back.

Back in the day it was a more viable change though, especially when you consider the difference in modern transfer fees and wages for strikers and defenders.

Difficult to have perspective when we've thrown promotion away in the way we have. However, it's a lot better than when Parkinson left.

This squad needs gutting for next season regardless of which league we're in.

Firstly, we haven't yet failed this season.

Secondly, last season everyone in L1 but Wycombe were screwed by the covid related curtailment of the season.

Thirdly, I don’t believe you are anything but a WUM posing as an SAFC fan and I get big whiffs of gravy with each one of your posts.

A true fan would be grasping at straws for any possibility of promotion but you do exactly the opposite.

We've only thrown guaranteed promotion IMHO, ha'way the playoffs!

Most players from this squad aren't good enough whichever division we find ourselves in next season so yes,it needs gutting.

Wow, League 1 keeper at League 1 club is worse in clubs history. The stats tell a different story especially if you take into account our injured defence.

    https://fbref.com/en/comps/15/keepers/League-One-Stats

He's conceded 0.85 goals per 90 minutes - Equal 3rd in the league
    Save % of 73.6 - 6th in the league
18 clean sheets (47.4%) best in the league

Not sure i'd describe him as an oxygen thief, infact he'd probably be ranked in the top 2 keepers in league 1 with those stats
