I see India is right in the 5h!t and they are still exporting AZ vaccines to the UK.
I know it's their commercial duty to do this, but I think given the dire situation there and the healthy state of our own vaccination programme here, the right thing from a human perspective would be to 'pause' the commercials and let them use those vaccines themselves.

Not that simple … As soon as they get jabbed they quit SD and remove masks... not all but far to many... then they meet up in big groups or go about normal pre Covid activities!

    oh and there is 1,400, 000,000 of them ! 66,000,000 of us .. about 25 to 1

How on earth does a country that is a wealthy as India allow itself to run out of Oxygen with all that's gone on in the rest of the world over the last 13 months ?
Their failure to even lock down the wealthiest parts of the country and following simple practices, and still allowing people to communally bathe in rivers for religious purposes with no social distancing evident is biting them where it hurts. I've been lucky enough to visit India and I know a lot of what goes on is cultural, but they have asked for it to a degree by ignoring the basics.

    cultural is the problem!
In USA is it one of their cultures [ maybe more than ] will not have operations/ blood transfusions / modern day medicine? [ maybe same in some other countries ]
what is devastating is population explosion! A programme on one of the tv channels [ watched only a few minutes of it flicking through ] a woman with at least 15 children around her was / had just lost her 6th or 7th child after being pregnant for over 6 month's. A few years back China limited child birth to 1 child … it is alleged... on reasonable grounds! that 100's 000's babies were killed at birth … they were female! Families wanted a boy as part of culture … during that time of the restriction there is a serious on going imbalance of Male v Female!
Ironically this led to a runaway population explosion, but not as the rulers had originally endeavored engineer! over all it lasted in different forms 36 years, one concession was 2 children if first was a girl! … pity the second born!!! … believe now it is 2 only!
Angelic … You may have seen the conditions outside major urban areas … tin and plastic sheets make for a home for up to [ double figure families ].. used to have a radio colleague [ well off ] who had a cousin [ poor no job other than day to day occassionally ] whos family lived in plastic crates!! … .. He worked for a glass bottle company and would get to keep damaged plastic crates .. wired them together and filled with soil … made wonderful walls! .. but normal SD was likely 3" …… ! hygiene non existant …..

We supply India with Overseas Aid.
We gave them the tools to manufacture the vaccine.
We're now supplying all sorts of equipment and oxygen.
Yet they have a Space Programme.
    Doesn't make sense.

That's a very good point RP. I've often wondered why we send aid to one of the fastest-growing economies in the world which has nuclear weapons and a space programme.
I was approaching it from a humane perspective, but I take your point.

I saw some pretty dreadful things in and around Mumbai and the area whilst I was there. Families of 10 or more living on the pavement of a main round with only the clothes (or lack of them) they were wearing, and a single cooking pot. No beds, not even a mattress, just a tarpaulin over them.
Yet barely 2 blocks down the road, is one of many Millionaires Rows where a lot of the Bollywood actors live.
I found it difficult to accept the contrast I was seeing and the disparity of life.

It is a very sad state of affairs in India, and we are being told what is on the news is only half the story. The likely hood is for every poor individual that is recorded as dying based on figures from hospitals, 3 to 4 more are dying on the streets or in shanty shacks and towns. I believe most deaths are funeralized within a matter of 1 or 2 days especially in less urban areas or areas of some wealth.
Looking at TV pictures and the cremations being done in streets on waste ground or using flower plant areas of parks fuel for such rituals may soon become an issue?
2% only of the population has been injected, that might not seem a lot compared to our 70% but is still approaching 30,000,000! which is not far behind us!

Maybe we should align our aid and economic treaties to their health programmes

I have difficulty with supplying aid to those countries where you know that most of the help will disappear in to the control of the less than scrupulous population only to show up on the black market at exorbitant prices. The corruption at every level of their society means that very little of the foreign aid they almost demand will ever reach the real people on the streets and so many other facets of life in countries like India and many others will not allow the usual aspects of corona virus control to ever be implemented.

The main driver of this virus here in British Columbia, based on facts and data, are the communities that contain huge populations of people from the Indian sub-continent who haven't got the message on social distancing and caught on an all too frequent basis flouting the health mandates from the authorities followed by cries of racial prejudice when they get fined. This is not intended to be a blast off on immigration just a reminder to those people who are fortunate to live in our 2 countries that they have a duty to conform to the medical restrictions surrounding this pandemic and ignoring them, no matter what your cultural or religious beliefs may be, will certainly lead to more cases and deaths that should not happen.

The situation in India is about as serious as it gets and my biggest concern is that it will spread through travel across the globe and I also suspect that it won't be long before we see travel related transmission by someone who has a fake vaccination certificate from a fake doctor (quacks as they are called) based somewhere in South Asia. This pandemic will not disappear from many parts of the world due to corruption and outright ignorance of the rules being set up by the rest of the world and it is now the time to vet all international travel that includes travellers from all the countries we know will struggle to bring things under control. A complete shutdown is required to include the countries breaking all the rules.

Yesterday we had 6 reported cases in our area that is known to have been brought to our island by a family of 10 who came over on the ferry from Greater Vancouver to have a large family gathering going completely against the health rules in place. I rest my case.Shame on them.:steam:

Indian virus IN THE LAST HOURS before India was a no go zone, dozens of chartered planes left India to other parts of the world [ chartered by rich individuals ] whether they were carrying infected individuals is un certain, but each plane likely carried a few hundred? who then went to areas where "relations/ friends resided" My source says he believes at least 3 if not 4 landed here in England....
There is a serious worry about holidaying abroad, even in "green zones" what is not being advertised a lot is, there is a high concentration of hotels in most beach areas. In normal circumstances MORE PEOPLE in hotels than "room on the beach" but some would take excursions or laze by the pool or go shopping === a fairly wide spread scenario! However a number of beach's are being reduced to around 25% of normal capacity. THOSE EXTRA 75% of holiday makers will not get onto beach's . 1 coastal resort in Portugal stated it has XXXXX? bed spaces but beach on incoming tides will only allow for 11% of those spaces to be filled at low tide about 25%.
the enigma is [at middle of day high tides 10am to 2pm ] they can only allow for up to 11% to enter to be on beach before the high tide! The best time my contact says "book holiday to have high tides at 7 am -8am " be prepared for a 6am start! and hope your hotel serves breakfast early!
Holiday? you will need one when you get back to get over the stress!...
    ps
she works in travel industry but does not book holidays.. she does travel research and suchlike...

Why doesn't the government lock down the North West and Bedfordshire (you won't get the BBC admitting it's Luton for obvious reasons).
No they'll wait, like they did with putting India on the red list, when it will be to bloody late.
    Couldn't run a p*ss up in.........

More to the point, its about time they stopped treating people who have refused a jab and let them get on with it.

I was shocked to hear the news on ITV about the spread of the Indian variant in about 75 boroughs in the north which has seemingly more than doubled in the last 4-54 days. Obviously there are sections of that population that aren't getting the message about vaccinations because just about all of the confirmed cases were in people who were able to get the shot but selfishly chose not to participate. Perhaps it's time for the hammer to come down on the anti-vaccine crowd as they could be the main factor in the spread of this new dangerous variant and will have blood on their hands due to their lack of common sense and public duty.

On the same theme we have the identical ethnic issues driving our daily increases in specific parts of our province. When will they wake up to the problems and join our fight?
