I think in either case its wrong. The parties should base their policies on the requirements of the electorate as a whole. But maybe that's naive.

Can you be any more condescending please as I find your immense intellect really rather uplifting. Of course you know for certain that she did not say it as your omnipotence grants you immortality and you were there at the time to see the conversation first hand.

    Another way of putting it...

Keep feeding fat rich lazy bastards all the best food and drink... then everyone else can pick on what comes out of their backsides (or foodbanks)

Its widely understood historical thinking that it was atributed to her by her enemies. But you clearly believe whatever suits your agenda, so crack on.

Yeah, I understand that. Trickle down economics, as I understand it works in theory but not necessarily in reality.

Widely understood by whom? It is also widely understood that she did say it. But then you already know that don't you.

How do they decide how companies pay their workforce?

Can I suggest some truths to spoil a good rumour?

We don't, as a nation, pay enough into the Social Security system
It was the financial crisis that ushered in the need for food banks
It was Gordon Brown who oversaw that crisis
He made it worse than needs be as he turned the nation from a nation of savers into a nation of credit card junkies- fact.
Ive seen (and still see) similar and worse situations in other European countries regarding food banks
The Tories can appear to be dismissive - but are often misquoted
Im not sure there was much choice but austerity after the 2008 crisis. The financial system was crushed - the same system that pays billions in corporation tax and employs many people who pay a lot of income tax and NI, to support the less well-off in our society
I don't think any educated, decent person wants to see food banks in the 21st century
Im not really sure that Marie-Antoinette has anything to do with modern day life in the North East of England - the situation then and now holds little comparison
Tarring everyone with the same brush is divisive and counter productive e.g all Tories are CNUTS or the Labour Party is a bunch of left wing commies...ie the use of THEY

Were the "academics" present at the time of the utterance or non utterance of the words? No they weren't as they would not have been born so they cannot categorically say that Marie Antoinette either did or did not say the famous words. So it is in effect ACADEMIC. It is not possible to say whether it was said or not and therefore your OPINION (or Google's) carries no more weight than mine.

Wow!! You accuse me of arrogance but you think that you know better than people who spend their lives studying these things. You really are something.

They and you know as much as I do on the subject. We can both neither prove or disprove. But you pass your opinion as being more valid than mine. I will accept your opinion as being more valid than mine when you can give me categorical proof that Marie Antoinette did not say those words. The opinion of academics is just that, their opinion. It is not a fact. Facts can be proven.

Actually, their 'opinion' is based on the study and analysis of a variety of primary and secondary historical sources and an understanding of the political and social climate of the time and place. This evidence is then used to build a coherent argument of the subject. I'll accept that evidential analysis is the same as your opinion when you've achieved all that.

So you accept that is their "opinion" and it is not a categorical "fact" then. There is no "evidence" to "build" anything it is guesswork pure and simple. Anyway you be as academic as you like about other peoples opinions and tie yourself up in knots trying to "prove" that somebody else's opinion that you read on the internet makes my and millions of others opinion null and void as much as you like. I cannot be bothered with this academic discussion any more as I am losing the will to live argueing about something that neither you, I, or anybody else can say for certain was or was not said. Case not proven beyond any reasonable doubt. I am free to go. <laugh>

This is the problem. Working class voters have been dismissed as thick and easily led by the party for quite a while now. Yet Labour still takes their support for granted without offering realistic policies to improve their lives. When Corbyn introduced his personal pronouns as "he/him" l nearly pissed my pants laughing. They win Putney and lose Blyth Valley and they STILL can't see the issue...

Dunno about anybody else, but whenever there’s a food bank on the telly it’s always full of Fat Bastads!! looking for anything free.

personally I think they should be banned.

There's parts of London where I have seen beggars with mobiles, mate. There is, sadly, a very genuine need for food banks, but there's a bunch of moral vacuums out for a free lunch anarl...

There’s a beggar in Edinburgh who gets dropped off in the morning by a brand new Merc!! And yes she is Romany!!

Chancing Hoors - I reported the bitch to the Police.

The only reason folk beg is the stupid twats who give them money.

Did you notice when the streets were quiet coz of Lockdown, No Beggars.

    I feckin Hate the twats
