A special tribute from the Beeb on the 50th anniversary of the release of Marvin Gaye's groundbreaking socially conscious album, What's Going On... https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m000vwtl And here is the great man performing the title track live, what a voice....
So today was the Eurovision song contest. As an actual song, I think my favourite was Sweden. However, I liked the quirkiness of Iceland. And I liked the 'sass' of Russia. In terms of the winners, Italy, I wasn't a big fan. There were two rock songs on the night, and I prefered the other one, Finland, which sounded rather Linkin Park-esque. Still, here's the winner so judge for yourself And Sweden, which probably had the best song, judging on just the song, imo. And Iceland, which I hoped would win for the sheer quirkiness And Finland's answer to Linkin Park With Iceland, just from looking at the band you can tell they're all a bunch of geeks, that probably play D&D or Final Fantasy XIV or things like that and thus are quite different to other bands. Which is nice to see.
Heard this last night on the radio, it's a touching tribute to their late keyboardist, Dave Greenfield...
What, no comments about the musical event of the year (by which I mean Eurovision)? Surely someone here must have watched it other than me!
Happy Birthday Bob, a true master of words.... Here is a remarkably good live recording of one of his great songs considering it is 55 years old..
