This isn't enough for me given Matip and Gomez are injury prone. We should be getting Konate plus one other.

Phillips and Williams can play the youth teams or go on loan but neither should be starting games for us from next season onwards .

Phillips is 24, think youth team is a bit pointless for him now even for his own footballing career.

    Williams loan.

All playing in u23s would do is block other players developing.

Phillip sale. Hes worked like a dog for us. I would love to see him get a good 5 year deal at a prem level club. If we keep him for a year fine but play him and then let him go somewhere after. He deserves a big contract and to be set up for all the work he has put in.

Yep, I would sell him personally because his value will be at its highest. Not sure if he's PL standard but he would be ok at a team who play with a deep block.

As a forth choice phillips is fine.

He developed a good understanding with kabak and they looked fairly secure, but him in with virgil or Joe and he'd be ok.

He's not at the level of first choice, but who fo you think we are going to buy for 4th choice thats going to be any better.

Importantly he's always fit and reliable.

As is Konate. VVD is likely to have set backs initially too

No mate - he's not good enough. VVD or Matip maybe able to carry him but we shouldn't have to. We need defenders who are good in their own right.

Phillips is getting a lot of praise because he's the big English underdog, who can put his head on the ball, but he has no pace, awful reading of the game, poor positioning and can't defend big spaces (which is fundamental to our style of play). He's done a job for us in desperate times and he's done it to the best of his abilities and he deserves respect for it but let's be honest, we haven't been good defensively.

We will have VVD, Gomez, Matip and Konate - I'm hoping we also bring in Kabak as well and that's 5 good centre backs. We should never be relying on Phillips / Williams ever again.

He's had one big injury, and one unrelated ankle injury. Apart from that, he's not too bad. But remains to be seen if he does suffer more injuries.

    its a hip injury.

100% thats a huge risk. theres no other way to cut it even if its a single injury.

Pleayers can do an ACL and come back better than players do from hips.

Paris Saint-Germain have contacted Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah over a potential summer transfer bid, reports suggest, as the Egyptian emerges as a potential replacement for Kylian Mbappe

So we are better off having matip who granted may be a better defender but its very difficult to stop the opposition from the treatment table. I'm sure his good wishes while he hobbles about on crutches help alot though.

To possibly be a bit realistic we can't afford to bring in another defender who will be very much back up at best for less money than we'd get for selling phillips.

We have to think with our business hat on - we have to sell to buy. Phillips is a player who has no future at this club and has some value which will go towards new signings. If we can afford to keep him then great but we need to sign two new centre backs this summer regardless of whether he stays or not.

Unfortunately as I say, I dont think we've got the money or intention of buying two without funds being raised from sales.

If we sold Phillips who are we going to buy for the same amount of money.

I'd rather sell Williams that lad looks shocking, even for 19

Matip is on £100,000pw (£5.2m per season)

Sell Phillips for £10m or release Matip and save £10m (over the 2yrs he as left), same end result money wise but we've kept the player that's more reliable on lower wages.

Would anyone have Suarez back on a free? He's 34 now so he knows he's not playing every game but there are more miles in his tank and he always gives 100%. Great option off the bench.
