    Well I'm not having it.

If the Government delays lockdown easing measures because of the India Variant they can get lost as far as I'm concerned.
I was willing to follow the rules when there was nothing more we could do.
But I'm not leaving my life on hold because of poor border security motivated by politics.

    I will always be Pro-vaccination.
But if the restriction easing timetable is stalled, I'm going Anti-Lockdown.

Yes, that would be a real blow and I suspect a breaking point for many people who have followed the rules so far, although to be honest the most recent lockdown has hardly felt much different to before the pandemic begun and although it has hit some industries hard, much of the general public have just gone about their normal business.

Just to clarify, I'm not saying I'll start hanging out with Piers Corbyn or join silly demos in Hyde Park giving the Police a hard time.
Nor will I refuse to wear a mask in the supermarket, if that rule stays (and it looks like it will).

But I'm going to visit relatives and friends when I want to.
An no sticking things up my nose, then being told I have to have two weeks off work.
I can't afford to miss one working day, never mind 10.

I’m sorry but if these little hotspots that are occurring are because of little business jaunts to India then implement a hard lockdown on these areas - please we don’t want another national lockdown before we leave the present one ffs!

    Confirmation on the Andrew Marr show this morning;

Bangladesh & Pakistan were placed on the travel Red list by the UK Government three weeks before India was given red list status.
Even though infection rates in Pakistan and Bangladesh were far lower than those in India at the same time.

Boris Johnson only cancelled a visit to India at the last minute, when the severity of the crisis there could no longer be overlooked.
The Government clearly placed signing a big Trade Deal with India ahead of the safety of the British People from COVID19.

Now we have the India variant spreading across the UK.
If the Government delays national lockdown easing because of the India variant, I will oppose that decision.
This spreading of the India variant - the avoidable Third Wave - is THEIR FAULT.

Our Government has failed to protect us - even after all the bitter experience of what happens when Coronavirus rages across this country.
    Almost 128,000 dead.

It's disgusting and wrong and I won't forget it.

Now Matt Hancock is saying the Government could only put India on the Red List based on evidence.
Evidence of rising numbers of infected people arriving in the UK from India.

    So they could not anticipate?

Even after all this time? All these waves of the virus.
    All the deaths.

    Hancock is bluffing and blustering.
    He sounds pathetic frankly.
None of this affects him. He's safe and his privileged chums are safe. He's complacent and frankly doesn't give a toss.

Their excuses are wrong. Plenty of people were calling for India to be declared a hotspot long before they eventually did. To quote Line of Duty "A bare-faced liar promoted right to the top"

The India variant has now been found in 86 regions of the UK.

So far there is no evidence of increases in hospital admissions.
If we are lucky, there will only be a slight increase.
But this situation is still an absolute disaster.

The Government line is that this was unavoidable.
That putting India on the red list 3 weeks earlier would only have delayed this situation a bit <doh> for pity's sake.
They point to Johnson's prediction of a third wave "washing up" on our shores.
As if that wholly justifies their politically motivated lack of action in the face of glaring evidence of impending danger.

    That's Bo**ocks.
They've got caught with their pants down again, too wrapped up in trade deal hopes to care about what will now happen across the UK over the summer.
When are they going to learn?
Border control and monitoring of quarantines has been abysmal.

No member of this government has ever admitted to getting anything wrong, ever. They are absolutely perfect in every way, just like Mary Poppins.

I'll admit, some of the nonsense they get up to I'm frankly not overly concerned about right now.
Giving PPE contracts to their mates, chums paying for redecorations at No.10 - these aren't great, but we can look at them later I reckon.

But allowing a third wave of Coronavirus to take off in the UK when everyone who was paying attention was begging and demanding we protect ourselves from the massive infection wave in India - It's unforgivable in my book.

Haven't enough people died here already?
Haven't our NHS staff been through enough yet?

Hancock bleating about "acting on evidence" doesn't wash anymore.
Starmer has relied too heavily on hindsight in the past.
But he was absolutely right about this.

Their handling of the pandemic has been littered with mistakes, apart from the vaccine rollout, which has been a huge success. In the case of India, as in other cases, Johnson only makes decisions when he has no choice. Boris just wants to be loved.

The media arm of the government is deflecting blame away by blaming "refuseniks" for the spread of the Indian variant, despite the fact that the areas most affected are not the areas of lowest uptake.

The Government only had to look at the aussies who cut themselves off from the world to realise we should have done the same from DAY 1.
    A staggering decision not to.

Since India was declared a red zone 110 planes have landed directly here from India. It's also bizarre that Bangladesh and Pakistan were declared red zones 17 days before India, although they had much lower rates of infection.

Hindsight doesn't enter the equation. China gave out no information, so you could see something bad was happening, but not the devestaion actually occuring. But Italy got hit in february. We were watching the news every morning, including when they couldn't bury the dead any more and had to start sending the army in to mass bury them elsewhere. By that stage it was clear that once covid took hold, it was uncontrollable. Spain watched this happen, and kept the airlines coming from Italy, so our first cases were all tourism related, but despite the evidence of the television every day, our expert and the Spanish government kept claiming everything was under control, until finally the hospitals began to collapse under the weight of infection and a lock down was belatedly called in. I'd blame all the members of the government who watched that and did nothing for all those deaths.
The UK got to watch first Italy and then Spain massively fukk up their response to covid, and decided that would be the best way to respond, and even couldn't bring themselves to organise a proper lock down. Even more deaths resulted, for whuch the government were to blame, and no hindsight needed. Now with the India variant, everyone has decided it might be worth trying the same 'let's see how this pans out' tactic that worked so well last year. Utter madness. Once Italy got hit, it was obvious the way to go was to close borders, order a lock down, mask up and sit it out. As @Elfs says, like the Australians.
And face it, we got lucky. If this disease had a higher mortality rate, the hospitals would have buckled and we could have lost millions, not thousands.

    I'm most annoyed.
Have had both doses of vaccine, but I can't connect to bluetooth or pick up Netflix.
I don't even glow in the dark.

    <laugh>

I haven’t had mine yet (my age category has just opened up).

If it means I will be controlled by Bill Gates, I’ll probably make better life choices
