As with all movements and actions, there is a popularity and a momentum that gathers its moment of media attention. It was bound to fizzle out and come to an end at some point. If information doesn't change then there is no news information and the so called action on the field at the start of games is of deminishing interest.

As far as the issue is concerned, I think football still has a racism problem, not least with some of the more fanatical and ardent supporters who hide their speeches of hate behind a computer screen and keyboard.

This whole thing is more divisive than unifying imo, Gareth Southgate is the latest to decide he knows best.

He's condemned England supporters and says they 'don't understand' the situation which I think is a little arrogant.

Perhaps it's him that doesn't understand.

People have had a year of being confined, off work, pushed around and denied normal human contact.

Those watching the footie want normality, we all want normality ffs.

We've had endless messages from Boris and his merry men, we don't want more bloody messages thrown at us when we're supposed to be having fun. Sportsmen and women were always been condemned for bringing politics into sport but it's now so 'compulsory' that anyone who's not in favour is condemned as a knuckle dragger. In my opinion those booing weren't necessarily racists, just people sick of being told what to think and what to do.

It wouldn't be so bad if all the kneeling and fist clenching was actually defeating racism, they're not imo but actually making things worse.

Gareth Southgate says England's players will ignore any "adverse reaction" and take the knee during Euro 2020.

Gareth Southgate says England's players will ignore any "adverse reaction" and take the knee during Euro 2020.

Boos circulated around the Riverside Stadium when players took the knee before England's friendly win over Austria on Wednesday.

Southgate said at the time "some people aren't understanding the message".

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/57370117

Southgate says they'll ignore 'any reaction'. Sorry but is that actually listening to people as Southgate is demanding we all do.

He spent half the post-match interview talking about this subject and that will, no doubt, be repeated throughout the Euros ...

... if the aim is to sicken people, with the subject, I'd say they're well on their way.

It isn’t politics. It’s equality. Human rights.. The minority of Middlesbrough fans need to hang their heads in shame like some of ours. Not saying I think the knee thing is the best but people booing a team doing something about tackling racism for a few seconds need to have a word with themselves.

I get that mate but the latest riots in Minneapolis are a result of someone doing the wrong thing but because he's black and was shot by police it's ok to riot and loot.

I firmly believe in equal human rights for all but when does a particular "minority" actually look in the mirror and say "hey, if we don't continue to break the law and shoot at police, we may not get shot ourselves".

    https://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/unrest-erupts-man-dies-minneapolis-arrest-attempt-78084243

On a seperate note, what right do these people have to loot shops because someone was shot?

    https://www.theguardian.com/us-news...boogie-smith-jr-minneapolis-deputies-protests

When do people actually stand up and take responsibilty for their actions

Below is a photo of my sons apartment complex in Ohio, his is the black Honda and the balcony with the lights is his. This was a black v black shooting with 100 rounds of ammo fired. If the cops had turned up and shot someone would they be in the wrong? More blacks around the worls and in particular the USA are killed by blacks.

I agree that it's about equality but it's undeniable that there's a political element.

There are many inequalities in society, if everyone should be equal why aren't other disadvantaged groups represented?

I don't want any political messages at my football matches, I want to watch a football match.

Do theatre goers have to see the cast kneel down and clench fists, if not why not?

Why isn't it done at the Baftas, the opera or even the Eurovision Song contest ...

    Seriously, why not?

It was triggered by a low life losing his life by unacceptable police brutality, my thoughts are I couldn’t and wouldn’t pay any sort of respect to a scumbag. I’m all for tackling racism but to use him as a platform from which to push it is unacceptable. Majority of my friends and family feel the same, including my black mates. Dress it up however you want sport should not be used as a political platform & the raised black fist is offensive to many people. Taking the knee is a choice the footballers take, it’s their right, don’t be upset when somebody boos, it is also their right. I turn up to watch a game of football and to support my team, when I do get back in I will choose to simply miss kick off or turn my back.

Just for once I'd love to see a black leader/icon say to young black lads 'Please stop stabbing each other to death in broad daylight, it's not nice'.

They don't, they just supply endless excuses.

It may sound harsh but they don't want to be seen as being 'on the wrong side' ...

... which couldn't be any more divisive.

Sport can do all it wants, it won't change a thing.
It's a society problem that needs to be tackled by social media especially. These morons won't stop, they'll take it elsewhere. The publicity they get just increases their cause, a total blackout would hurt them more imo.

I am almost 50 and have been arrested 3 times for minor offences which I now find embarrassing, all when I was in my younger days. I have always worked, I’ve been out of work for around 4 weeks of my working life, everything I own was paid for by graft, I never chose to sell drugs, steal or bum off the state. We have an entire society of mainly young black men in many towns & cities up and down the country that refuse to become law abiding citizens and earn an honest living, they sell drugs, steal drugs, steal anything of value and kill, stab, shoot each other but it’s not their fault. London for example is a ghetto in places, all the stabbings machete attacks are carried out by mainly young black men against young black men. How is that a racist issue that some people make it out to be ? I am certain they can get jobs and earn an honest living but chose not to, mainly because they are brought up in that environment and see it as normal. Khans London is a hellhole full of George Floyds.

I'm waiting for the day naïve people stop allowing themselves to be pushed onto bandwagons because of what they see on the news.

As an example I give you 'the people of Glasgow' who are demanding the country prostrates itself on the ground, begs forgiveness and changes the names of streets, schools and other building in shame over plantation owners with black slaves.

They're obviously oblivious to the fact that white miners, in Scotland, were slaves at the same time ...

... some, even after 'black slavery' was abolished.

My own maternal Grandfather left Glasgow and walked to Consett because of the continuing deplorable condition. His 'escape' was a tied pit house, he could be quickly turfed out of, and shifts on the coal face up to his waist in water. So please excuse me if I don't hold him responsible for wealthy merchants having slaves in a country he didn't know existed. I have absolutely no shame and accept no responsibility. Why the f**k should I have people tell me I have to come to terms with my past and hang my head.

Just leave me alone and don't dare tell me my silence makes me part of the problem.

    https://stuartahamilton.com/2016/08/25/scottish-slavery-lest-we-forget/

"On 25 March 1807, King George III signed into law the Act for the Abolition of the Slave Trade, banning trading in enslaved people the British Empire."

" It took a subsequent 1824 Act of Parliament, the purpose of which was to “amend the Laws relating to colliers in that part of Great Britain called Scotland.”
"Finally, all Scottish colliers were to be free from servitude and were now subject to the same legislation that governed other workers in the country."

Would it be fair to assume there's a greater percentage of indigenous population in Asia and Africa than in Europe ...

    ... I don't have a clue tbh.

Slaves white or black have existed for thousands of years, they built the pyramids, Great Wall of China, Hadrian’s wall etc, they still exist in smaller scales but over the last 150 years ish the slave trade has mainly been eradicated. I too come from a mining background, my grandad was sent to war at 18 and done his bit, he returned and was sent down the pits. He lived till his 80s and I’ve never respected anyone as much as I did that man, not once did I ever hear him complain about his past. He brought up 10 kids as well, everyone of them good law abiding citizens. Now In my opinion that’s a hard hand to be dealt in life, he never complained or blamed it on anybody, he got on with it and made a bloody big success of his life.

If a team has black players in it and those black players want to take the knee... and if their non-black team mates want to support them... sobeit...

It really does not bother me... in fact I am somewhat bemused as to why it generates so much heat..

As for sport/politics they are and will always be intertwined... although greed and self-interest are there also... and we hope sportsmanship...

I get where you're comong from Sunderpitt and i agree, if people choose to then so be it but at the same time if people disagree with the actions then that needs to be accepted as well.

I haven't looked but it would be intersesting to see if players are taking the knee before chinese super league matches or in Africa. Is this a worldwide thing or just a reason to be offended and appear to be doing whats right for socia media? Might have to do a bit of digging

What bothers me mate is that there's a trend that everything should be publicly mourned, marked or protested about ...

... as if it achieves more the effort of actually doing something.

This movement towards a 'Princess Di society' is self destructive imo.

If football players really care so much about racism they should do something other than going through the motions, for a few seconds, before the match.
It's just paying lip service and has become a bit daft in the eyes of many people, me included. The journalist in Ozzy's article link seems to be another.

If BLM, or whatever we're supposed to call them now, can have a 'pre-match protest' why shouldn't every other 'oppressed group' ...

... surely, if the aim is equality, that's a reasonable expectation.
