Of course not, but it makes people believe they're proactive and 'not part of the problem' ... ... it also makes people believe they have instant moral high ground even though they're actually doing nothing. .
Well no euro 20 (ish) for me after Southgate confirmed football doesn't start until the teams have bent the knee.
It really doesn't matter where it started, or the relative symbolism of a clenched fist, raised flag, bended knee, bowed head or for that matter whether they own a Ferrari. The players of our football teams are choosing to express their concern on the issue of racism here in Britain and possibly elsewhere. AFAIK they are objecting to racism, pure and simple.
No offence mate but you're starting to sound like their official spokesman ... ... in reality you've no idea what they're concerned about.
No offence, but I think you fail to realise that this is no longer about George Floyd ... The issue is racism. The players have a right to choose, some players and teams of football and other sports have chosen to opt out. That is also their choice.
I reckon 100% of us on here and in the crowd think Defoe is a top bloke and we all completely support him. Same with Gary Bennett and loads of others who have been part of our club. I also think all those who boo’d before the Lincoln game would agree with the above. They aren’t racist, they are sick of the virtue signalling taking the knee and don’t want to see it happen. If it is continued, the crowds should be able to have their opinion as well. Football should not be used to show political messages.
But there are racists. I saw Sess being called a ****ing **** by a couple of lads at Everton away years ago. Bent's mum got it while he was our top scorer. Not all who are booing are definitely not racist. There is plenty of racism about.
To be fair I couldn’t give a s hite what they do I would just read my program and let them get on with it.
I’d 100% support the players if they did something like linking arms before a game for example, but I will not get behind this taking the knee bollocks. Not after what I witnessed happening at the cenotaph and Churchill’s statue last summer. They can claim taking a knee isn’t political but to me it will always be linked to those ****ers in London a year ago.
I find it unbelievable why there is even a discussion over what players choose to do for the sake of 10 seconds in support of equality. Whether we like it or not the players are choosing to do it for their reasons and its not at all political if you believe what they all say. It doesn't hurt anyone so let them get on with it
I haven't heard anyone say it's not. If it's simply about supporting the campaign against racism no-one needs to kneel.
My problem is that if that's not a problem it opens the door for another protest on a different subject. If we don't agree with that should we just accept it and say nothing. What about the Rashford school meals campaign, should the players be able to make a stand on that? And if it's appropriate at football matches why not the theatre or horse racing ... ... do you think kneeling would be acceptable before every show or race meeting?
So do you think people in other sports and entertainments should kneel? Do you think PL players should boycott the Qatar World Cup bearing in mind their appalling racism and the thousands of deaths involving immigrant workers building the facilities ... ... surely, if our players are so committed to the fight against racism they'll refuse to go.
I personally think the BLM movement is the worst thing that could have happened... I think it has made the situation far far worse, and created even further division. The BLM slogan points to one race and that’s the black race. How can it preach equality, when it only demands justice for one race. There’s forms of racism against every race. What the black race do need to address is their overwhelming level of violence on our streets. Despite only representing 13% of the population in London, they are responsible for over 75% of murders. Young black lads were stabbing each other in broad daylight in Hyde park a few days ago. BLM activist Sasha Johnson was shot by 4 black men a few weeks ago at a party full of people. If footballers really wanted to help, instead of bending their knee, why not put their time and effort into helping these young black lads stay out of trouble. Their voices and funds could go along way in these communities, and change lives.
My thoughts entirely mate. The black leaders/icons simply hand them excuses about them being disadvantaged and poor. Growing up in a Durham pit village we had nowt ... ... but I never once thought of robbing someone, at knife point, to take their shoes.
