I'm clearly in the wrong line of business...This is my modest attempt at competing with the seafarers on here. OIP (3).jpeg

Am I being overly optimistic? Just looking at the broad tests for lifting restrictions, and as far as I can tell, as long as the jab rate stays at the current pace, we're on track to meet them...aren't we?

    1. The vaccine deployment programme continuing successfully.

2.Does the evidence show vaccines are sufficiently effective in reducing hospital admissions and deaths in those vaccinated?

3.Do infection rates risk a surge in hospital admissions which would put unsustainable pressure on the NHS?

    4. Is the Government’s assessment of the risks fundamentally changed by new Variants of Concern?

I can see them keeping up with masks in public places, and social distancing, as well as working from home where possible, but surely most stuff can start to be relaxed?

I really do hope this silly old fool isn't representative of the sort of person that will be advising the Government. :emoticon-0145-shake

I heard a really good virologist this morning talking about how much benefit a two week pause could give us against the chances of further restrictions having to come back in the future. I'd be definitely interested in a short delay compared to trying to get more people locked down again in the future (which I think will be difficult).

Also, if I'm being selfish, there's not a lot that I can't do now that would change on the 21st. I appreciate Nightclub owners etc would say different.

I don't agree with much of what Taylor said but I would have been prepared to have an even-handed discussion with him. Something which Julia Hartley-Brewer clearly wasn't prepared to do. She bullied, interrupted, didn't listen and was overall a complete ignorant twat who should have her arse kicked. Who does she think she is? Katie Hopkins?

Less than a quarter of pubs think they'll survive the summer. This is a real sorry state of affairs but I I've been out and about a bit recently and it's pretty clear that a lot of the pubs which are struggling or still closed are those which have struggled for years, well before covid. You know the ones, where premises are usually up for sale, tenants seem to come and go every 6 months. I reckon covid has just hastened the inevitable for lots of these businesses.

And as well as that round where I live staff shortages are causing some pubs to close 1 or 2 days a week even though they're popular, covid-secure and potentially profitable. My daughter works in our local but she's leaving end of this month to take up a law job in London. The pub manager has offered to double her money and pay her fares back from London just to work Sat nights and Sun lunch. They just can't get staff.
