Been watching the U21s championship and have been really impressed by Dalot. I said on here a few times that he needed to play because we had no RW outlet, in this tournament he was immense at that particular aspect of the game whilst being competent at defending. Now we have Bissaka who is possibly the best 1 on 1 defender in the league and is definitely "improving" going forward but still loses his man when defending. Dalot is great going forward and tracks his man defending but is not quite as adept as Bissaka at tackling. I think we should bring Dalot back as at least back up but also competition, anyone have any views on this?
I'm a big fan of Dalot. I used to sing his praises when he played for us. I don't think he ever got a decent chance at United. Rarely picked and when he was, it was on the left. He bossed PSG in that comeback a couple of years ago and he's been exciting to watch every time he's on the right.
He’s never been given the chance as has been said earlier here. May be his playing style doesn’t suit ours. And he has moments when he disappears. Mourinho didn’t trust him too. And Trippier apparently is being approached to be cover (or even no 1?). Both Trippier and AWB will want to be no 1. Good if there is healthy competition but more often than not one will be left really frustrated and will refuse to sit on the bench. No complaints about AWB’s 1-1 defending ability but his contribution to the attack is not good enough especially when it is compared to Shaw on the other side. Trippier COULD be an improvement to our first eleven. (just realised that Henderson, Shaw, Maguire and Trippier could form the regular England defence that Southgate will use)
Tbf to AWB he's not had a consistent RW to help or provide the overlap. I'm interested to see if we sign Sancho (and it's being reported that we're close to a deal at 80m + add ons) how AWB does then. His final ball is **** btw and I don't expect that to change but he'll get himself into positions to link up with the forwards more and drive into the box imo.
Dalot is an example of what I see as waste at the club. We bring in players and without giving them enough chance to succeed, we send them along because they are deemed not good enough. This has truly become a self inflicted wound for us. Since Sir Alex retired, we have had some truly remarkable players pass through the club only for them to quickly disappear and re-emerge elsewhere. I'm not sure if it is the case of causation that by them coming here first, they raise their game at the next try and do better elsewhere, or that the club simply doesn't have the right environment to bring the best out of most of those players. I am mostly in the camp of the latter.
That right side of our game is completely wasted. Nevermind Neville, even Rafael used to be a beast going forward.
I read something the other day that Ole was considering moving AWB to Lindelof's position during the pre-season. Could be interesting, we'd keep his tackling strengths but have Tripper there to link in forward play with Sancho - that would completely change our left sided approach - can't wait to see what happens.
Definitely one that got away IMO - looks like Donnamurra is going to sign for PSG on a five year, £10m per year contract. When you think we're paying deGea £16.8m a year................................ never mind, looks like we're stuck with the chuckle bros in goal for anotjer season
I think we should have been. De Gea is is danger of becoming a flapper between the sticks and Henderson just isn't up to the job - in essence, neither of them are up to the No1 keeper slot and neither of them will be content to be No2, the answer would have been to get a barrow full of cash for de Gea (and a decent lump for Henderson) and get a 22 yr old international keeper to replace them both (on a free) for half their combined wages. I know a keeper isn't an obvious priority but I do have concerns that we are going to spend shed-loads on Varane and Trippier to bolster our defence only to negate that expenditure because our keepers are hesitant and need a babysitter in the 6yd box at all times.
Rumour mill: Ronaldo leaving Juventus. most likely going to PSG. Any chance we might be interested? Would he be any good even it meant one title shot?
Never bring a dream back to see it fail, even the best of this centuary. Ronnie can still do it even at his age but in the right league, the PL would kill him and destroy the memories.
In addition to Diego's point, his exploits certainly didn't give Juve the title last season. I certainly don't see the point of using our emotions again. We need to start thinking about building a team for the future. Not just one title shot. I would rather see a player in mold of Elanga get more play time at this point than sharing that with Ronaldo.
Given our overall transfer budget I would imagine that his fee would be ridiculously high and his wages astronomical. He should head for the MLS and become a legend there (but not sure if the historical sexual offences allegation there would kill that idea off).
Bruno to Ronaldo... goooooooooooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll! Just sayin'
