After an initial period of being on the fence with him - announcing him renewing his contract now would in a strange way be a big statement of intent to other potential signings. If we've been able to retain him it will show that he's convinced by the plans.
When I lurked on there, he always struck me as genuine, not a Billy Bullsh*tter. McGeady agreeing to stay here, may help get a few deals over the line too.
Just read the thread. There's a much often missed point there about kids in schools. Being a professional footballer is quite a nomadic lifestyle. If you've got kids in schools and they're doing well and have their mates, you'd be willing to earn less to maintain that (as long as you could still live comfortably). Even I got offered twice my current salary, to move somewhere else in the country, I doubt my wife and the kids would want to move with me. And he's not getting a pay-rise anywhere. As long as we offer him what he needs to maintain that lifestyle, then we have a good chance of keeping him.
There is a point when you are totally happy with what you’ve got stick with it, I’ve been offered twice the salary I was on and a choice of any motor that I wanted but I was happy so didn’t see any reason to move.
Great news. Embarrassing to think some of our fans sided with Parkinson when he left him out of the side.
Embarrassing to think that if he doesn’t produce in the first couple of matches next season, you’ll turn on the management for re-signing him like a rabid dog!
