The absense of Maguire will help imo.

While it worked a treat at first the McGeady/Wyke combo failed at the sharp end of last season, McGeady is truly class there is no doubt, but I am not sure I would welcome the return of that combo to start off next season, its a tough one, and getting it right is not as easy as one would first think, just looking at the stats.

And he'd still be the best player in the league. Says so much that he topped the creativity table this season despite being out of the picture until December. Lets hope its true.

If he stays we need him to get the same out of Stewart than he got out of Wyke as I don't think he'll be on our books next season.
We also need more outlets than Geads next season as the goals did dry up when teams played to nullify the threat they posed.
Difficult to assess when we don't know our squad yet.

<laugh> Absolutely not. Tbf Streaky never played Maguire anyway, so will be absolutely no different to last season.

Might have missed something but think he’s just saying he’s back in north east? Could be any number of reasons not least of all that he lives in the north east!

You would almost think he has a house up here after all these years. Mental.

In my eyes, Stewart would score more than Wyke with McGeady service.

The only one I hope actually stays. 09, Wyke the rest of them, if they need a lift. I’ll be available.

I agree that Stewart's movement is far better than Wykes, so you would think that we'd get a better return from that, but it seems a bit churlish to me that fans slag Wyke off as he topped 30 goals ffs.
I've never known a striker on any club's books be berated after scoring that many goals as has happened with Charlie. Us Sunderland fans are either very hard to please or can't see a good striker when we see one.
Thinking back to SKP, his goalscoring had a bit of everything, from volleys to tap ins, whilst Charlie's were all one touch finishes which weren't as exciting to watch. Or maybe I'm just rambling.

No, you're not rambling. Phillips was an all round goal scorer whereas Wyke is one-dimensional, no comparison. If McGeady does sign then Wyke may score a few, if not he won't. Wyke has had his "once in a career season" in my opinion.
Is it possible Wyke is waiting to see what McGeady does regarding a new contract before deciding his own future? You never know!

I doubt that like geads got 12 assists wyke scored over 30 goals. I’m not bothered if he signs or not tbh. If he does great if not no big deal imo.

Good point, Wyke would go back into his shell without McGeady ...

... but that set up makes the team one dimensional.

I find it strange people are not bothered about Wyke signing, particularly when saying Stewart will score more. Scoring 30 goals in a season is rare. I thought once Johnson came in, and we played better football, crossing from higher, Wyke showed what a good striker he is. His movement in the box was outstanding at times to give himself a half yard. His headed finishing was outstanding, always hitting the corners. Stewart looks a different type of striker to me, one who will pull defenders wide and use his pace to cause havoc. I would be surprised if he is a 30 goal man though. Personally would like to see them both here but I suspect Wyke will be off to the championship and will be one of those that gets more love after he has gone.

I can't argue with your comments but honestly feel we need a greater spread of goals throughout the team ...

... the midfield should score more and our defenders shouldn't just come up for corners as a change of scenery.

And where is Poom these days <laugh>

We certainly need more from midfield and even other forwards. I cant imagine anyone, Wyke included, getting 30 again, even 20 is an ask. Now that we have got rid of some of them that rarely contribute we can hopefully get some players in that can do it and the likes of Hawkes and Neil will bring some threat. The way Johnson plays should allow players to get in the box and get goals.
