I agree with the guy completely.
Of course we'll not know what REALLY went on behind the scenes, BUT......
1/I'm not convinced Eriksson would have been spoken to about the game within minutes of having had the heart attack.
2/I'm not convinced both teams wanted to resume the game.
3/The mental welfare of the players should have been a major concern.
It was disgraceful resuming the game. They could have played on another date.
Tottenham cancelled the game when Muamba had his heart attack. That was the right thing to do.

Fair play Elfs - I don't wholly agree for various reasons, but your argument is made with conviction.

The times really have changed in the last two or three generations.

I recall reading about an FA Cup match somewhere, at the end of the 1940's or early 1950's I think. Huge attendance.
Soon after the start of the game there was a fence collapse or a crush among the fans, and dozens of people were killed.

Almost unbelievably, the bodies of the fans were laid beside one side of the pitch and covered with makeshift shrouds, and then the game resumed.
It ended in a 0-0 draw.

That seems impossible to imagine in this modern age.
    But those were the times.
We had not long emerged from WW2 and the terrible bombing of cities.
People were hardened to the sight of horrible death. And of course there were no on-site medical facilities or fleets of ambulances.
And the concept of mental health was virtually unknown.

127,000 people have died from COVID19 in this country during the last 15 months.
But of course they have passed away in ICU wards, care homes or in their own homes. Out of public view.
Families and loved ones aside, the mental stress of those deaths has been bottled up within the medical & care services.
Very unlike the 1940's during wartime.

    I'm not saying that's a bad thing.
But it illustrates how differently we live now from the way our grandparents lived.

Caught the netherlands - ukraine game last night. I wasn't planning to watch it, but the opening ten minutes were just mesmerising - the simple speed of the play, the hustling by the opposition. All the goals came second half, and I thought Holland probably deserved the win, but England will need to be on their A game here, there's some good opposition to face in the next couple of weeks.

This might as well go here - it certainly doen't belong on the good news thread. Hours after we watched the Danish footballer Eriksen being brought back from death with a defibrillator, the news today was that a couple of lads got into Bexhill football club and smashed the defibrillator there. I didn't know this until saturday, but medics estimate the chances of survival of a cardiac arrest are around 7%. If you are within a couple of minutes of a defibrillator, that goes up to 70%. So these dickless pieces of scum smashed up something that will cost a fair bit of cash to replace (after non league football has already been hit by the pandemic) and the only thing they have achieved is that if someone has a heart attack there, it may well cost them their life. What the actual f*** are we teaching kids these days that they grow up doing this? I hope they catch the twunts that did it, and give them a beating, but I would guess with police generally overstretched, that bit of human kindness will go unpunished.

    A couple of utter morons.
Once they're caught they should be made to work to earn the money to replace what they smashed - ten times over.
Expect they'll just get a slap on the wrist though.

Just seen the video. It really is difficult to understand why anyone would do that. We need to understand any issues that those involved may have but unless we make the punishment fit the crime (in all cases) then we are all, as a society, contributing to this in my opinion.

The law abiding must seize control of our society and ensure that justice is done and seen to be done by all. That way you actually deter crime in the first place and we are all better off, including most criminals who also lose out by committing these crimes. Young people need to be taught right and wrong and if they don't get it then they need to be punished properly until they do.

If the two in that video knew they would be locked up for 5 years each when they are caught, do we think they would have done it in the first place ?

Yes, that's exactly what's needed. Let them learn the hard way and also let some good come of it. 10 defibs instead of 1. I'll take that.

Scotland 1-0 down (following online while working). The BBC just flashed up a photo of one of the Scottish players (Dykes) who looks a lot like Gazzer did when the Scots and the English clashed in Euro 96. Will he be playing on friday?

Watched the first hour in a pub with a few expats while waiting for the boat back from Scilly. Same old same old...
We now face a clearly superior England team, and will probably beat Croatia when it doesn't matter, cos we will already be ahrt.

I was expressing sympathy for the Scotland team at times, and I actually cheered when the poor radio commentating led me to believe they had pulled a goal back (I think it was when a shot clipped the crossbar).
Needless to say I got some stick from several workmates.

I couldn't find a single workmate who had one shred of sympathy for Scotland.

I've always got it regarding Scotland & Wales fans hating the England team.
But I've never really understood our need to put them down.
Still, I know it's all in good fun really <hug>
