I was referring to your last comments

Unless Porton Down really did say ‘garbage...imagine if it was a pregnancy test’?

I did use to work there.
I'm sure the official report would not be rude but the scientists didn't suffer fools gladly.

I like a nice, snappy thread title as much as the next man.

However, I'm a stickler for an accurate, nice, snappy thread title so...

    ...maybe by 19-7-21 perhaps?

Why is there always a focus on the negatives of how we are doing as a country?

We have produced and implemented a test and vaccination program that is working. Compared to most other countries we are doing very well.

Its about time people started to understand that.

    Vaccination programme - Fantastically successful
Testing programme - PCR great, lateral flow not so great
Compared to ther countries - Fantastically successful

    Mostly positive. (enough for you???)
30 years experience on diagnostic tests leaves me with a rather specific viewpoint.

Who can get a COVID-19 vaccine
COVID-19 vaccines are being offered to:

    • people aged 21 and over
    • people who will turn 21 before 1 July 2021
    • people at high risk from COVID-19 (clinically extremely vulnerable)
    • people with a condition that puts them at higher risk (clinically vulnerable)
    • people with a learning disability
    • people who live or work in care homes
    • health and social care workers
    • people who are a main carer for someone at high risk from COVID-19
You'll be contacted by the NHS when you're eligible.

You do not need to wait to be contacted if you're in a group listed above. You may be able to book your COVID-19 vaccination appointments online now

‘Health chiefs have not released any details on the potential variant to the public yet but experts are said to be confident the jab will still be effective’.

There’s not actually anything in that article to suggest the vaccine won’t work against it.

I think the successful implementation of vaccination has pulled us out of a much bigger hole than we could have been in. However, as a general point, our performance hasn't been any where near good enough. The latest figures from John's Hopkins University show or death rate per 100000 as 191.79. India, for example, have 68.48 deaths per 100000.
I don't think the families of the 127,914 people who have died in the UK will fail to notice the negative aspects of our handling of the pandemic.
A final comment on our test, track and trace performance. A successful TT and T system nips infections in the bud and limits disease spread. It's has never worked and it's still failing.- over 9000 new cases today. Fortunately the vaccination progress will limit the number of deaths but the increase in cases reflects a failure of the system. 37 billion pounds spent for no real benefit must be a negative worthy of note.

If you actually believe that India has performed better than the uk, well I am sorry to say that I don’t.

At one point they had reported cases at 390k per day.

Now I acknowledge that I am crap at math, but I am no fool.

I do not believe that we should still be in restrictions, but the reason we are is down to India not performing. It’s the largest producer of vaccines and the worse at counting.

but compared to last year, that is a so many % increase which means test and trace is now working ... the system was none existent even 12 months ago , now its here and working, if we had this capacity 12 months ago I fear it would be 150% more at least of infections ... what I fear is they will dial it back down once vaccinations are at a certain level

The deaths are a nightmare and showed that for 20+ years we underestimated this scenario going on what they know but not the basics of finding what they dont know , its been a **** show no doubt , but as a country we have stepped up over time and we will be better because of it .. IF they dont wind stuff down
