Swap both for Mbappe. It's time he played in a big league.

Since Paratici was announced (and even before when it was obvious he’d be appointed) there’s been a lot of links to players in Serie A from various news outlets - as well as one departure.

The departure being Sissoko to Napoli, one report says it may be a loan, others suggest a transfer.

Then we’ve been linked Berardi of Sassuolo, if there’s any truth in that then I’d say Bale won’t be returning on loan and possibly two of Bergwijn, Lamela and Lucas could be sold to accommodate his arrival.

Another link is one we’ve seen in the past and that’s moving for Merih Demirol of Juve, as his game time is limited there due to the likes of Bonucci, Chiellini and de Ligt.

And finally the most recent story is Paratici wants both de Vrij and Brozovic from Inter in a £47m double deal.

There was also apparently a failed attempt from Paratici to try and sign Donnarumma but it looks like he’s PSG-bound. He’d have been an amazing signing but realistically we have zero chance when going head to head with a side like PSG.

Can't say I know much at all about Italian football. It has fallen quite a distance since the glory days of Del Piero and Weah bossing it on channel 4 on a Sunday.

Also the style of play there is so different to the PL I worry how well players will adapt.

To be honest as long as we skip shopping in France this summer (unless Mbappe fancies a run in the Europa Conference League) I'm happy to try Italy. On paper most of those are very good players who'd be upgrades on what we have right now but then the adaptability factor will always be a potential concern.

He also signed players from France, Germany and elsewhere when at Juve, plus the club will have scouting networks in place already, so yeah I would assume the plethora of reports that will come to us to come through linking us with players in Serie A are mostly lazy join-the-dots journalism.

I am not sure about Italians in England, can't think of many who have had a great time in this country.

Zola stands out as by far the best, Di Matteo was also a success at Chelsea, Vialli was hit and miss, and Casiraghi a disaster. Jorginho is a good player for the current Chelsea team.

Ravenelli had great season at Boro and they may have had a couple of others.

Balotelli - need I say more

I really can't thing of many others - Lombardo at Palace, Di Canio, Sheff Wed might have had a couple if memory serves and there was Aquilani at Liverpool who was another failure. We had Tremazzani and that probably says it all. We did have the world cup winning Nicola Berti, but I don't recall him pulling up any trees really and also Cudicini.

Is there any one country that stands out as always having great imports in the PL? For every Kante there’s a GKN. For every Ballack there’s a Lewis Holtby. For every David Silva a Roberto Soldado and for every Ronaldo there’s a Gedson.

For me it’s more about the individual players, are they good enough to cope with the pace and intensity the PL is played at compared to, say the Italian league, which can be a bit slower and more tactical at times. If they can do that and are open minded and mentally strong enough to deal with moving countries and cultures then they should be fine.

Very true Hudd, I guess that as the total sample size of Italian players is so small the number of successes is also going to be low. So whilst we could all probably come up with a sizeable list of lets say French players in the premier league who would be deemed a success the total number of French players would be huge.

Italians are probably only 2nd to Englishmen when it comes to playing abroad. But maybe I should be encouraged by Jorginho showing that they come here and perform at the highest level and more worried that your list suggests that it is just us who consistently pick the ones that can't make the transition!

He did have prior experience of moving country and settling in though, having been born in Brazil and moving to Italy at the age of 15.

Yeah we’ve certainly had our fair share of duds! I think on the footballing side the Bundesliga is still the closest but there’s a lot more pressing in that league and it’s tactically quite different and many players still say the PL is more intense when it comes to how the game is played. I think for many the difficulty in transition is as much cultural as it is footballing too.

I think the Germans, Dutch and Belgians are generally best prepared more than others to come to the Premier League. They're all from technical leagues and with the Dutch and Belgians especially, they speak English to a very good standard which always helps in settling and understanding tactics/ terminology in-game.

When it comes to Italians/ players from Italy, who we're being linked with a lot now for obvious reasons, it's not a league that tends to see too many come over here. From memory alone I think our only signing from Italy in probably the last 5-10 years was Lamela and there can be a debate as to whether people think he's been a success, failure or middle of the road type signing.

On paper, a number of the players we're being linked with from Serie A would be very good signings if we assume they could adapt (and shipped out enough non-HG dross to accommodate them), Pellegrini is indeed a top midfielder and just a day or so after I mentioned how much Locatelli impressed me on the Euros Scouting Thread, Calcio Mercato said we're now looking at him.

We also signed Iago Falque from Juve in 11/12.
Mido from Roma in 06, Edgar Davids in 05 and Stephane Dalmat in 03 from Inter came in before that.
Paulo Tramezzani and Nicola Berti might be the only Italians that we've signed from Italy...
