Totally agree. I mean I like KWP, and is great for a club like us, but crazy if people think he is better than the other 4 or 5 ahead of him. Maybe with more time he will get better, last season was really his first proper season so there is scope for improvement.
He doesn’t seem to get much recognition outside of Saints fans aswell. Obviously football fans as a rule are pretty clueless but whenever I mention him to any of my non Saints supporting mates the general impression I get from them is that he is average - poor. You’d expect people actually working within football to know more about him than your average fan, but still says a fair bit about the general perception of him imo
I agree with that, but then look at the clamour of loads of saints fans and press wanting JWP in the squad/team. To me that is nuts, I think he is effective for us, sometimes, but not at that level, it’s crazy. Not sure if on here or SWF people saying JWP would have turned that game around last night
Yeah agree also, I think his one season as a mainstay in our team was really good and think he can get much better. Think he needs to bulk up a bit though and that will help. Makes Spurs choice to let him go miles more crazy, think we got the better of that deal (I know him and PEH were separate but you know what I mean).
I think it is part of the thing being a fan of a smaller team. Couple of days ago I was having a pint with a few mates, one of whom is a Leeds fan. He said that the only player in Saints squad who maybe would get into Leeds’ team was JWP. I laughed but he was being serious, the other guys I was with (2 Chelsea fans and an Arsenal fan) all agreed with him. They all follow football closely and aren’t complete idiots when it comes to knowing what’s going on so I think it’s just a perception of the players at club like Saints or maybe we over estimate the players we have
Yeah no way Ayling is better than him, not bad but not sure about that. But most of their players would get in our team, less Ings. Be interesting to see how our summer xfer window goes, I’m pretty relaxed as I think it will be miles better in ages, but our starting point just now is also pretty low.
The problems on Friday largely stemmed from the fact that too many players had a poor game for England and that we played at too slow a pace. I am not even sure who are best player was! Reading some of the comments on here there are some salient points and none more so than the general tiredness of the teams whose players have faced each other week in, week out, for 12 months. It was disappointing not to beat Scotland although I think that a lot of us were guilty of not really giving them enough credit before the game. In the end, they were the better team and if it was not for some of the typical finishing of Che Adams familiar to Saints fans, we would have been beaten. I am not sure that JWP would have "saved the day" as everyone in an England shirt seemed to drag down their colleagues. Even the substitutes seemed to arrive on the pitch with the same degree of lethargy..
Pickford?! At least the dead ball delivery would have been better. It was rubbish except for the Stones chance Grealish and JWP, England’s not so secret weapon? Jack gets the fouls James knocks the free kicks into the area or the net ... GOAL! Then we can play with 9 defenders and still win
My Dutch chums rate him and the way the team plays when it all clicks and the red wave rolls forward at pace.
