Anyone else think this lad and Wilson would have been worth their weight in gold to the current England squad. On Friday we saw a team devoid of ideas when a team sits deeper, nobody willing to take a chance and break the lines. Willock would have done that. He did for us from the moment he arrived. Wilson was the only option available I thought to give us a direct replacement for Vardy. Workrate, finishing, harassing defenders, etc. He'd have created space for others just from his approach to the game. Missed a trick England. All so they can take 10 gadzillion right backs. Southgate is Pardew esque, but his penchant is for the right as opposed to the left.

The fact that Lingard didn't make it to the Euro's is just ****ing laughable!! Taking players who are unfit and barely played the latter part of the season over and above players who were playing/scoring regularly is just a ****ing joke, but we've been here before. How long after the competition ends do we find out from the likes of Harry Kane that he was either not fit or carrying a slight knock....or both?

Anyhow, back on topic. That article surely must mean £10m + Woodman ! No brainer for me, he'll go the same way as Arma/Toney etc did and never get a look in for us and go on to be ****ing awesome somewhere else.

Yep said the same on Friday in the match thread. But Southgate only picks players in form so scoring 7 goals in 7 games isn't enough for a midfielder

If he was at arsenal and he did it he'd have been in the team.

Southgate picks players from the big clubs then throws in a token northerner

Basically the players this country thinks are the best English players are not the best English players.

The media the fans the pundits are on the main the voices of fans from the big clubs and over time people start to believe their bullshit bias opinion on players..

We pick on reputation and which club they play for. In reality you should always be picking a SQUAD and a TEAM. What is going to serve the collective best.

Individuals rarely win major sporting competitions. The closest you'd get to that is Ronaldo with Portugal. Even then though they have some good players.

What won't serve the collective best is picking 5 full backs. Then not even playing your best left back. James, Trippier and Walker is sheer stupidity and I said this at the time. "Walker is a centre back" was the cry. Well he's played one game at right back so...

To be honest I'd have considered taking 3 full backs or 3 centre backs. Just to shoe horn in an extra midfielder (Willock) and an extra striker (Wilson). I also think Ward Prowse looked a good option to me.

    GK: Pickford, Henderson, Ramsdale
    Full backs: Walker, Trippier, Chilwell
Centre backs: Stones, Maguire, White, Tomori
Centre mids: Henderson, Phillips, Bellingham, Rice, Ward Prowse
Attacking mids: Sterling, Foden, Saka, Grealish, Sancho, Mount, Willock
    Forwards: DCL, Kane, Rashford, Wilson

You'd have left back cover with Saka anyway and Walker plus Rice give you centre back cover. A few different ways you could go, but none of the options I would consider would end up where Southgate has us.

Thought Roy Keane nailed it too. He said the exact same thing I said during the match. As someone who played central midfield, I was told from a very young age, when you come to receive the ball from the defence there should be two things in your head 1. How much room do I have, who is around me (you should know this by the time you receive the ball) 2. Do I have a forward pass on?

Our two Phillips and Rice got it all wrong. They were head down, never aware of who was around, and thinking "do I have a sideways or backwards pass". Once your mentality is that, you've already prepared for negative play. Listening to Southgate, I think that comes from him. A sideways pass or backwards pass is fine when you don't have a forward ball.

If I had to choose a word to describe England on Friday, I'd say cowardly fits the bill.

I would of deffo taken JWP. Maybe not to start but he's an absolute weapon to have available of you need a goal. Just tell the likes of grealish to just get the ball and run at the oppo getting free kicks and stick him on there. Dirty tactics but at the end of the day it would be a useful option.

Looking at the Chron article on this, I think it's Woodman who is rated at 10M and the London journos have got the wrong end of the stick,

£10M seems a lot for Woody, mind.

He basically looked like the second coming of Yaya Toure. Kenedy's stint here has me wary of judging loan players on a few months, but this lad is clearly incredibly talented. He's athletic, technical, and times his runs into the box brilliantly.

The thing is, I think if he has any sense he should be pushing for a move to join us. I think if you dropped him in that Arsenal team it wouldn't work. As much as we benefitted from his presence in the final third he benefitted from having an incredibly free role that allowed him to roam around and find the game. I can't think of many teams that would allow you to do that.

In that regard, he's this generation's Nolan or Cabaye, the team is built to suit what makes him a good player, and that's why we see such a high return.

Woodman could become a top top keeper. I'll be well pissed off if this happens. Woodman could be with us 15 years as 1st choice.

Really? Is any goalkeeper with a team 15 year these days? Even Shay Given only lasted 12 years.

I do like Woodman, he's a good keeper, and in a post-Brexit world the need for English players will certainly increase. The problem we have is that Willock is having a much greater influence on the first-team. Hoarding a young keeper while we have Dubravka doesn't make sense.

Woodman is the real deal in goalkeeping terms.

A very short term view in my opinion swapping him for Willock. I want Willock here but not at the expense of our emerging talent.

Dubs is good but not great and could easily be cashed in.

Willock scored all those goals, will he repeat? I'm not so sure.

Must say I'm not keen on using Woodman as a make weight. I think we are sitting on a keeper of high quality there. I'd be much more keen just to add Willock to the party. Dubs is a good solid keeper but he's 32. He's probably got another 3 years left at the top max. I'd be tempted to loan out Freddie for one more year, ideally at Swansea who've looked after him well, then cash in Dubs and put all our eggs in Woodmans basket.

You should know better with your username. Think of the short sightedness that cost us Merino just because Diame had a purple patch. People talk about home sickness etc. That lad would have went nowhere if we'd played the motherfucker. He is exactly what we suspected too - high quality. I'm now sat watching Jonjo Shelvey wave his arms around for people to do the running he should be doing.

Woodman will be the next Merino.
