I agree, EFL website clearly states that loans out from the club still count in the squad and early reports exampled Flores as remaining in our squad. What I do find puzzling is the varied statement on squad size. In relation to embargoes the EFL definitely says 23 not 25.

You'd think a major business would have their lawyers look over the small print of any loans or 'grants' they take out. Anyone doing an LPC wouldn't have missed the 25-man squad and outgoing loans term of the EFL loan, so I'm leaning to believe Ehab didn't even bother consulting his legal team about it.

I mean, it's not even small print. It's on the EFL website clear as day.

The other alternative is that Ehab knew but didn't relay it to the recruitment team.

Whatever the case, it's ****ing embarrassing. A major business like a football club taking out a loan/grant from the EFL and a lack of communication and understanding of the terms of the loan/grant makes the club look like a Mickey Mouse pub team.

I actually feel sorry for McCann. I've criticised his attitude with the media before but he's been made to look a bit like a silly **** because he's had to admit to the media that the club didn't know that outgoing loans still counted as part of the 25-man squad limit. Not his fault at all. Some people, whether it's legal, recruitment or Ehab himself, haven't done their jobs properly and left the manager looking a poor, clueless **** to the press.

Perhaps making McCann the patsy was part of any deal that let him keep his job after the 19/20 debacle.

I really doubt it, Grant was in great spirits during the interview, he didn't seem overly bothered, more of an inconvenience. He took the piss out of LD and told him to get his finger out. It looks like the 3 he wants are all close and he's expecting people to go out anyway. He did seem quite relaxed about it on the whole.

It's the EFL, they seem to make up rules as they go on, they've just relaxed Derby's embargo and they've been intentionally cheating for years.

I think he asked the legal team to have a look but they told him to get on his bike.

Would we have to get transfers sanctioned by the EFL before completing them?

Listening to the McCann interview with RH got the impression city are close to coming close to reaching a compromise/agreement with the EFL, as McCann sounded very confident that 3 are on there way in.

It makes sense to pay it back if we can afford to. There's no point in limiting our transfer activity for such a relatively small amount, especially now that we're selling season tickets and merchandise and very soon matchday stuff.

You’re being thick! Your typo made it look like Grant McCann might have provided the money.

Just pay the debt and get on with it .. everyone seems to be blaming the legal advisors but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Ehab knew what the consequences were and pressed ahead thinking he could get things done without worrying about paying it back in a hurry .. hence the flurry of early transfer activity. Nothing in life is ever free .. and there is always consequences to not paying these things back .. given the legal team have been pretty impressive to date .. I certainly wouldn't be in a hurry to put the blame on them. As for Grant saying they didnt realise, he is an employee, and as such says what he is told to. Hopefully it will get settled ASAP in order to allow a bit of common sense to be employed and to get bodies through the door.

Can I ask why the announcement from the EFL about these embargos came so late? We had already made several signings when they announced the embargo which feels odd to me. I would have thought the minute the grant was provided (last season) the EFL should have announced these limitations in full. The incredibly late/delayed announcement really seems to suggest it's a miscommunication from the EFL on what clubs are allowed to do and the technicalities of the embargo rather than City misreading anything. Ironically we seem to be a victim of trying to do our business early, while other clubs who are dithering are now in a better position to adapt to the requirements!

It's the EFL, they realised the info that a number of clubs were under the 'monitored loan' embargo in the spirit of transparency, but then didn't release the details of the restrictions and what you could/couldn't do. We were still better to do our business early, the 5 new players looked good on the whole by all accounts (I didn't see the Scunny game though). Let's get the 3 in this week and it's been another great window.

Agreed, guess what I mean is if it was 'typical City' doing our business last minute, the club would be copping less heat around the embargo which is a bit ironic.
