I won't believe it until I see a post on our Twitter

...although I'm willing to believe if Atalanta post they signed Demirel first

Always check for the blue tick with Romano, too many little spackers making fake accounts and posting as him.

For what it’s worth, it does look like there might be light at the end of the tunnel now, a few other journos have posted similar to the tweet that PNP posted on here so looks like we’ll be able to wrap the deal up once Atalanta have a replacement in. I’m hoping it’s done ASAP though, there’s still a fair bit of work that needs doing, both in and out, and this one has draaaaggged.

At this point Paratici is probably going to be negotiating with Juve to get Demirel to Atalanta

Don't suppose he fancies adding Dier to the list of players to negotiate with?

I agree that Levy probably got badly burned fingers from the Sanchez sized hole in his wallet, but I'm interested to hear what makes you compare the two players as you have done.

Granted, Romero recently won the Copa America and is slightly older than Sanchez was when we signed him, but a season at Genoa followed by another at Atalanta...no disrespect to either of those sides but to my mind he's almost as big a risk as Sanchez was but at an even higher price.

I'd limit 'established star' to someone with a more impressive CV ideally at the prime of their career and even more ideally with PL experience. Aymeric Laporte or Raphael Varane for example.

Sorry guise I'm very late to this whole Juve-Atalanta-Spurs triangle. Couple of questions:
    A) Why are we negotiating with Atalanta if the player is legally owned by Juve?
    B) Will this become a Toby mk II, whereby Atalanta fans will forever harbour an irrational hatred against us for signing "their" player?

Neither Laporte or Varane would join us though. They’re the types who want to be winning titles and playing CL footy, or in Varane’s case simply picking up a huge wedge as he likely ain’t winning any titles at Utd.

Romero won Serie A best defender last season in a league that has Chiellini, Bonucci, Koulibaly, Manolas, Romagnoli, Skriniar, de Vrij etc so whilst I don’t know a huge amount about him, he must be half decent to be picking up that sort of accolade above those guys.

Also, something I’ve said a few times already but Atalanta are basically the Leicester of Serie A in terms of making some unbelievably smart signings in recent years, and unlike Leicester they’ve actually qualified for the CL for the past two seasons too. So signing someone from them gives me the hope that they’re likely a very decent player.

We’ll never know for sure how good he is though til he puts on a Spurs shirt but for the hassle we’re going through he better be good!

He’s on a two year loan there and Atalanta have an option to buy, so they’ll pay the fee (around €15m I think) and then immediately sell to us for the reported €50m+.

So basically prior to now they didn't think he was worth paying 15m for but were good to pay his wage and now you have offered 50m they have said "**** yeah, we're having that" <laugh>

No, they had him for another year so probably would have waited to sign him next season. This way they can make a huge profit on him.

It’s a two year loan, they’re not exactly in a rush to pay that €15m.

I thinks it's more strange that Juventus buy him and then loan him out for 2 years without playing him. I suppose they just stockpile players like City & Chelsea and they are just making sure their main rivals can't use him.

Blame Paratici as it would’ve been him doing just that <laugh>.

They signed Romero the same summer they signed de Ligt and Demiral I think, so them three along with already having Chiellini and Bonucci always meant someone was either not gonna play or needed to go out on loan, Romero was indeed that one.

    True, true.

Can’t say I blame them either, will be more than tripling their money within hours of paying for him, lol.

It has to be remembered that Juventus have 3 of the best centre backs in Europe and a 4th choice who is also an established international. Romero was signed I would guess as a player for the future (probably by our new director of football) and loaned out to another top Italian club in order to gain experience and possibly for them to make a profit.

Last season he improved significantly, maybe more than Juve expected, but much better judges of players than me (and other people posting here) have watched him play in Serie A, Champions league and at the Copa America and now think that he has developed into a player who will improve our defence (not hard) and is worth the sort of fee that is being negotiated. I have no idea if he is worth the money and bringing over players with no experience of our league is always a risk, but in all honesty we need better defenders and from the little I have seen of him , he looks like he can defend that's already an improvement on Dier.

I won’t copy the tweets as they’re in Spanish but two Argentinian based media outlets - TNT Sports Argentina and TyC Sports - are claiming the deal is done/ Atalanta have (finally!) accepted our bid.
