Never done a match day thread before, so I have an unbeaten record which I hope to maintain. If we lose, well I will be in Spain for the next match, so will shed my tears in my beers. Saints got off to their usual start to the season, but losing away to Everton, on the first day of the season has to be considered a bonus as we would normally lose the first game and then lose, later in the season, at Goodison. So this represents 1 defeat instead of 2 defeats. Win, win. United fluked a 5-1 win against Dirty Leeds, so are clearly there for the taking. I am expecting quite a few different players to start for us, especially hoping that Bednarek will be in for Stephens and Stuart in for Theo. Officials information courtesy of Saintosprey. Well volunteered that man. I wonder if Armstrong is fully fit for this one? It strikes me there is not a lot of difference between our full backs and our wingers now. They overlap, both get forward, both cross and above all they both have to defend the flank. Which is why Ralph likes the look of Djenepo as a left back. For me though, Tino and KWP must both start but probably not on the same side. As Tino plays either side I would like to see him pairing with Perraud and Valery with KWP. So I'd like to see ... Forster KWP Bedders Salisu Perraud Romeu JWP Valery Tino Adams A Armstrong. Tella, Armstrong and one other would make good impact subs. My big worry - we name 9 on the bench. Great that we now have a strong bench but unless they are playing regularly then they won't be that great for long. We really need to see rotation more this season.
The good news is that much like the Goodison/opening game of the season loss efficiency, we are going to make further efficiencies in this game. We are highly likely to get very soundly beaten by Man Utd and I'm going to the match. Wouldn't want to waste a winnable game on me as they rarely even win when I go to the game. Hope you appreciate both my sacrifice and use of alliteration.
I am thinking of switching my allegiance from the men's first team to our women's team. At least they win ****ing matches.
Last season there were more away wins than home wins in PL, 153 away compared to 144 home wins. After the first week this season, there were 7 home wins compared to 3 away. A lot must be down to the return of fans. So let's keep the home win stat going and let's get behind our team COYR
I think our season will not be defined by results against the top six but by winning against the promoted teams and those around us like Brighton, Burnley and Palace, so l am looking for a good performance and if we get a point that’s a bonus!
