    Swansea City v Hull City

    Competition - Sky Bet Championship
    Venue - Swansea.com stadium
    Date - 11 September 2021
    Kick off - 3:00 pm

Following their disappointing 1-3 defeat at Deepdale prior to the International Break, next up for Russell Martin’s Swansea squad is a home fixture against Hull City.

On 28 August, Preston claimed a second successive Championship win as they eased past a ragged looking Swansea side.

Indeed, last season’s losing play-off finalists, Swansea City, have won only one of their opening five league games of this campaign and look to have significant work to do as they attempt to rebuild under new boss Russell Martin - and (hopefully) progress along that path was made at the end of the transfer window with the signings of Williams (on loan from Liverpool), Obafemi and Ntcham.

Anyway, against Preston, the Swans went ahead through Joel Piroe's cool finish but the hone side quickly seized control once Sepp van den Berg had steered in a quickfire equaliser.

Emil Riis Jakobsen's drive put Preston in front before Ben Whiteman's free-kick beat Steven Benda to seal a comfortable victory.

As a result, Preston climbed to 16th in the early-season table, while Swansea dropped to 19th.

Whilst the Swans were losing at Deepdale, a determined and hard working Hull City were frustrating promotion aspirants Bournemouth in a goalless draw.

Indeed, Cherries striker Dominic Solanke was denied three times by Tigers goalkeeper Matt Ingram.

Hull, who started the game brightly, found chances harder to come by, although they did hit the crossbar through Greg Docherty.

Randell Williams also fired narrowly wide late on for the hosts but both sides had to settle for a point.

Promoted Hull got their Championship campaign off to a great start, with a 4-1 win at Preston - the side that beat the Swans 1-3 last time out - on the opening day, but had picked up just one point in the subsequent three games.

As a result, Bournemouth lie 6th in the early-season table, while Hull are 18th, 1 place above the Swans.

The Swans have played the Tigers on 78 previous occasions, winning 31, losing 29 with 18 matches drawn.

Without doubt, particularly from the Swansea perspective, the most memorable fixture between the two teams took place at The Vetch Field on 3rd May 2003 in front if 9,585 spectators, when the Swans won 4-2 to retain their place in the EFL on the last day of the season - step forward James Thomas:

James is a real Swansea legend - the guy who scored the hat trick that secured Swansea’s League status and who is now an excellent Paramedic in the Swansea area as I can attest to personally from 3 years ago this month<cheers>

Turning to Saturday, hopefully, the 2 weeks international window will have provided the opportunity for Russell Martin to further inculcate his ideas into the squad, and to allow the new players to have the time to immerse themselves into the club and to familiarise themselves with their new playing colleagues.

Whilst I’m hopeful that the Swans will win 2-1, I have the suspicion that it will take another couple of games or so before we see the team settle into the Martin style of playing The Swansea Way.

As such, I think the match will end with honours even, 1-1 each.

Cheers Taff , difficult to call this one, they've had a few indifferent results but smashed Preston whereas we we like lambs to the slaughter. maybe the break will have been enough time to improve the overall picture but I'm not so sure . 1-1

    What does "inculcate" mean?

So difficult to get any gut feeling for scorelines at the moment. I'm going for 4 points from today and next Wednesday but not sure which way round. Oh all right then, 1-0 Swans today.
