Funny how people get so emotional about the nationality thing in tennis. Don't recall people ever saying Sterling is Jamaican and not English.

Not a huge fan of tennis but to go from rank 300 and something to grand slam winner in about 6 months is a phenomenal achievement <applause>

It’s probably because nobody cares about tennis. Cricket is the same, half of the team a while ago weren't English.

    Sterling isn’t English btw

    The British citizen isn't Canadian.

She's lived here since she was two. All of her schooling and tennis coaching has obviously come in the UK.

She was born in Canada but she's British.

She actually holds dual nationality - has both Canadian and British passports, but has been raised in the UK and its the LTA who have essentially covered the costs of her training and travel since she showed promise.

People like Sucky and Trebs who were claiming she is not as British as someone born in the UK clearly have some racist traits as they seem to be implying that we should take less pride in her performance than that of someone who was born in the UK. As someone who has family members who were born outside the UK but have made the UK their home I find this deeply offensive. <whistle>
