Competition - Carabao Cup, Round 3
    Venue - Amex Stadium
    Date - 22nd September 2021
    Kick off - 19:30

Following their ‘game of two halves’ 3-3 draw away at Luton, next up for Russell Martin’s Swansea squad is a Carabao Cup match away to Brighton, who are of course managed by former Swansea Manager, Graham Potter.

Last Saturday, the Swans fought back from 3-0 down to claim a point in remarkable fashion at Luton Town after a thrilling contest at Kenilworth Road.

Luton blew Swansea away in the first period as Luke Berry volleyed in and Elijah Adebayo struck twice.

Russell Martin's team looked on course for an embarrassing defeat but bounced back spectacularly after the break.

Jamie Paterson and Olivier Ntcham both scored from distance before Joel Piroe levelled in stoppage time.

The following day, Brighton's excellent start to the Premier League season continued as they held off a late Leicester rally to move up to third place in the table.

The Foxes twice thought they had rescued a point in the closing stages but Ademola Lookman and Wilfred Ndidi both saw goals chalked off for Harvey Barnes straying offside.

Brighton bossed the opening hour but needed a controversial penalty to set them on their way, Neal Maupay scoring his third goal of the season from the spot after Jannik Vestergaard's handball.

Danny Welbeck doubled Brighton's advantage early in the second period, glancing home a near-post header from Leandro Trossard's free-kick out wide.

Leicester finally sprang into life, Jamie Vardy halving the deficit by side-footing Youri Tielemans' first-time cross in from close range after a fine one-touch move.

But they were denied a point as Barnes was twice adjudged to have interfered with play when Lookman scuffed home from a corner and Ndidi headed in from another.

The Swans have played the Seagulls on 64 occasions, winning 26, drawing 22 and losing just 16 matches.

The sides last met at the Amex Stadium in February 2018 when Brighton ran out comfortable 4-1 winners in a PL fixture:

Turning to Wednesday evening, I expect both Managers to make a number of changes from their weekend starting XIs, but whoever is selected, I expect Brighton to run out comfortable winners by at least 2 goals. <cheers>

Now we're in the third round I would expect Brighton to put out their strongest possible side. It's not like they have a congested fixture list and tired players unlike ourselves lol.

Brighton have had a good start to the season, currently in 4th place. They will be firm favourites to win and they probably will.

I was going to go to this one, but just can’t be arsed. Shouldn’t say that with it being against Brighton. :)

Tough game, Brighton on a roll. So unfortunately it's a 2-0 home win for me

Never liked Brighton , just another south coast wannabe Club so a win would be double delight . So I'm going for an away win for those reasons , just hoping that'll be enough

Thanks Taff....the question here is how much do either side want to progress in what is now a Mickey Mouse cup as far as the top teams are concerned playing full reserve sides all the way.. Does RM fancy a crack at Brighton and show GP what he is missing? Do the players fancy it? Who ‘bows. Personally play our strongest side and perhaps get a shock result...going for a close encounter here and either a sneaky win for us or a loss on penalties...

I think if Brighton score a goal - they'll win.

That's a complete team change for Brighton from Sunday's team that beat Leicester. 11 changes. They deserve to lose. Can't understand their logic at all.

    Brighton 1 Swansea 2
